I have recently gone back to injections from pump and I'm having an issue with corrections I can never do it right and well when I think I'm right I hypo I know it's a case of trial and error but I need some help as to how I would calculate how to correct because I've hypo'd 3 times today and it's a tad exhausting lol! X

I did DAFNE course August 2014, and we were all told 1 unit of insulin to drop 2-3, it works for me. This is what is stated in our notes, hope this helps

Corrections Tips quoted:
1 CP raises BG by 2-3 mmol
1 unit of QA reduces BG by 2-3 mmol
Maximum recommended correction doses - 4 units until you know your own sensitivity
Correction doses are not as predictable when BG is greater than 11 mmol

But your pump had all this data on it... So why don't you use the data from your pump? Its exactly the same for MDI? (Except the basal!! -lol!!) the expert meter if you get one again, lets you put in exactly the same data!!

I use the 100 rule to calculate how 1u will make my bg drop by and then use my before meal bg target and my mid way bg target to correct to. Before meal target is 6mmol, mid way target (post meal) is 8.5mmol so if my bg is 8mmol before food, I correct to 6mmol and if bg was 12mmol post meal, I correct to 8.5mmol and then hopefully should get me back to my target of being around 6mmol again within the 4hr acting time of most bolus insulins although for many people the acting time is around 4.5 to 5hrs.

I didn't think of that omg it's been a long exhausting day with all these hypo's!

Got me pump meter on me...
0:00 to 9:00 1U for 1.7mmol
9:00 to 13:00 1U for 1.4mmol
13;00 to 16:00 1U for 1.6mmol
16:00 to 19:00 1U for 1.3mmol
19:00 to 0:00 1U for 1.5mmol
I defo need a expert again if only I knew where mine was!!! I can't remember if my dsn had it! I hope not! I actually need it il follow this and use this meter for now I think I have strips still

Remember on a pump you needed less insulin than on mdi so the correction factor will be different.

?? My correction factors and bolus were the same when I went back to MDI... Infact now my basal is so much less that Si've had to change everything.....

At least Nicola has a starting block for her differing time blocks which are variable for correction and bolus factors.

I loaned my 2nd doare expert out to a neighbours friend when he ran out of contour strips and haven't had the metre returned yet. Otherwise I would have posted my spare one to Nicola.

Again, we are all different. It may well be thst Nicola needs more insulin back on MDI but the 100 rule etc does not account for individuals either. Nicola is on quite large doses for basal and bolus and this does not go well eith the 100 rule you mentioned earlier.

I think Nicola eould be best phoning the best guy in Accuchek and getting an expert meter. In the interim using an app seems brilliant idea...

She'll get there. Just that its probably good for other people to also know that like me, like Nicola, if you change back to MDI then its important to have the needles, pens, insulin in place as a basic... And also for pump users to always check dates of back up stuff too.

Nicola will get there. I know she will but there will be some initial tough times to settle back to MDI...
