I am a Type 1 diabetic on Insulin for many many years. My doctors advice me to go for Insulin pump. All the pump users I want to know what is the cost of using a pump for a month. Is it very expensive? Please advice.

I would think that the answer to your question will vary a lot depending on the country and what the local healthcare system does / does not provide free

Hi @SHmano I see your from southern India.

The cost would depend upon the type of pump your using. You'd need to think about the cartridges and their size - how long each would last, somewhere between 3 and 7 days, then changing your cannula every 2 to 3 days. You'd probably use less insulin so insulin cost might drop a little. You need to factor in the insurance cost if your able to get insurance to cover a failed pump.

Yes, I am from Chennai. Do Insurance companies cover the cost of insulin or pump?

I have no idea how your health insurance works in India, only you can answer that by asking them yourself. In the UK we do not have insurance for the supply of pumps and insulin, what I was talking about was insurance for damage or loss. But its possible if your pump can be supplied through some form of medical insurance then ask them if they would replace it if damaged or lost as it may not cost any more.

Contact your Doctor. If they don't know the answer they will be able to put you in contact with those that do.
