Evening all,

Got a bit of a sore throat coming on. Normally I’d be looking to fight it off with a combination of lemsip and lockets but I’m mindful that the lockets in particular are probably packed with sugar.

Any low carb tips for fighting off a sore throat/cold?

Hello, have you tried gargling with warm water and salt? Or sipping on lemon and ginger tea (fresh lemon and some ginger), possibly sweetened with sweetener.

I have not had a sore throat for a while, but I used to suck Fisherman's Friends Original, according to the FF packet they only have 1 grams carbs in one lozenge.

A glass of single malt whisky at bedtime helps as well.

Just squeeze some fresh lemon or lime juice into hot water, should do the same job. If it’s very painful a couple of paracetamol.

Thanks folks. I’ll pick up a lemon on the way into the office tomorrow and give it a try!

Sounds facetious, but once you are optimum (if you chose to be) you may not get colds and similar in future, or at least not often. I used to get these on regular occasions. Since taking control, I have only had 1 cold in 4 years - it took a plane with loads of people coughing and sneezing coming back from Spain to give me that one about 2 years ago. I would grate fresh ginger and galangal (Sainsbury's has this), boil and drink.
