Not for an eOGTT!
Usually fasting blood is used to send to labs as a baseline for further bloods taken later or in future tests.
If it is to test for someone with normal fasting blood glucose levels, a non fasting test will skew the test!
A non fasting glucose tolerance test is for those with T2.

The op is being tested for another metabolic condition.

Hi, Sorry because I’m really new to all this can you ask does this mean that me not eating will have influenced the test or not? Is it different with the 4hr gtt? X

Yes it is!
An extended OGTT is essentially a test to track your blood glucose levels before during and after the glucose is used and how your insulin response counters the glucose. How and when you spike and when you return to normal blood levels.
And if you go low as well!
As I said fasting before shows you are at normal levels, because you have not got diabetic levels.
Only someone with diabetic levels would not help the test being in fasting mode.
Some T2s cannot fast.
They are two different tests. Used for different diagnosis reasons.

Everyone has to fast for a GTT.

What I understood from @dipsydo was that it is recommended around the forum that you should eat at least 150g of carbs/sugar a day for a few days before taking the GTT or you may overeact to the glucose and get higher results.
 
Whilst the popular school of thought is that we should "carb up" or comply with a carb intake of a minimum of 130gr (I think!) of carbs a day, my Endo suggested I didn't, prior to both screening for Coeliac and OGTT. He felt if my usual way of life means fewer carbs, I could be seen as creating a false situation for the test.

It seems Endos vary on this.
 
I think we are not so sure about wether fasting or not.
I'm certain I've seen that the two hour test is not fasting.
Or is it a forum thing?

How can someone who can't fast, fast?

It's so interesting and intriguing what you pick up on this forum.

I'm certain thinking about it a two hour glucose test is not just the usual diagnostic test, it has several different diagnostic reasons to do the test.

I'm confused!
Someone, post a file, from some medical advice!
 
Sorry I’m really confused
I did fast as requested for 12 hours however in the past 4 months I’ve eaten very little in general due to constant nausea and having zero appetite. I probably manage around 500-600 calories a day.
Is that likely to mean the results I have could be false or does the fact it’s the 4hr test mean it’s likely to be right? I really could do without having diabetes on top of everything else.
Thanks to everyone who’s replied because I’m way out of my comfort zone here x

Fasting is correct diagnostic method.
I don't believe that you have diabetes, because your fasting blood levels are in normal range.
Your Hba1c test results would confirm this.

No, it's not easy, not knowing!
And it can be very confusing!
