Could I have pre-diabetes?

Hi
For the last few months I have been suffering an increase in strange symptoms, which include:

Dry mouth
Irritability (especially when hungry)
Numbness in my feet (especially when exercising on the treadmill for more than 10 minutes)
Pins and needles in my legs and arms from time to time
Waking up in the night very thirsty (but not needing to pee)
Lower back pain around my kidneys and frothy urine
Male thrush & and increase in iciness on my scrotum.

I am a white male 47 (as is my waist sadly) who is overweight by 3kg I am trying to lose weight; I go to the gym 3 times a week. A friend of mine who is type 1 diabetic said I may have pre-diabetes? Can I test for this myself or do I need to go to my doctors, I had a test 14 mths ago and was told I was okay and wouldn’t need retesting for 2 years.

hi Byambaa.
Welcome.

We are not allowed to diagnose on here, only advise. I would strongly advise you to see your GP and list all your symptoms. There are a myriad of things it could be, not all Diabetes related.

Hope this helps.

Hi Byambaa,

The easy way to find out is to get yourself to the doctor and he'll tell you whether you have high blood glucose levels very quickly. Considering that you seem to have so many things that are causing you concern - I suggest that you do that.

By the way these figures don't seem to add up: "I am a white male 47 (as is my waist sadly) who is overweight by 3kg ". A waist size of 47" is indicative of someone who is more than 3kg overweight. Did you get it right?

Best Wishes - John

did I put 3 kg (I must have put what it is in stones) it should be 19 kg, thanks for the advise.

By the way, I have been diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic for nearly nine years and I have had no noticeable symptoms in all of that time. I still wouldn't be aware that there was anything wrong if I'd not had a random blood check for cholesterol.

The nearest that I got to wondering about anything was a very itchy scrotum when my blood glucose levels were at their highest quite recently. However, it wasn't for long and I never asked whether that was in fact a symptom. However, I think taht it might have been.

Again, I suggest that you get yourself off to the doctor's surgery!

Best Wishes - John

Agree with the others do go to a doctors to sort these problems out.

I do have pre-diabetes, my symptons were blurred vision, having to get up in the night to wee, frozen shoulder and also tiredeness. I had none of your other symptons, I was not overweight and also exercised. So my symptons were different to yours.

See the doctor. Only doctors are allowed todiagnose.
