Could it be the new batch of test strips or should I worry?

I have noticed my readings have gone up in the past week or two. Biggest difference is in the fbg that has gone up just over 1mml, from low 4 to mid 5. I have looked through the readings for the past month and checked against the number of remaining test sticks and it more or less seems the higher readings coincide with the higher readings but possibly the rise started before the new batch.

Should I worry? Or get a new box of sticks?

Hi Totto, mid 5's are still pretty good so I wouldn't worry too much, just keep monitoring. I guess you've tested current batch of test strips with control solution ? If this small increase resumes when you start another batch, you will at least know for sure and can make a decision whether to accept slightly higher results or try to adjust lifestyle again to bring back down. I know you already do LCHF so maybe another option would be an early morning walk or similar ?

No early morning walks, I'm afraid. By seven I am out working in the field or in my poly tunnel and then I will keep working until evening, bar frequent breaks for rehydration.

I know mid 5 is no catastrophe but I do find it strange. Have cut down on nuts as find it hard to tolerate the carbs or maybe it is my inability to curb intake once I start on on them. There are no more carbs I can cut down on. If the next batch shows no improvement I suppose I will have to try metformin.

Now I have to start planting out those 450 lettuce that are waiting for me.

Seems like you certainly get plenty of exercise as you say and your diet cannot really be adjusted further so at least you can safely say you have done everything in your power to stave off meds. I would be very happy with mid 5's but if not, Metformin is a relatively safe drug. Good luck ! Mo

I would be delighted with mid 5's for fasting. I think we all need to remind ourselves occasionally that we are diabetics, not non-diabetics. Mid 5's are perfectly acceptable for non-diabetics so should be acceptable to us. I don't think you have any need to worry at all. Don't be so hard on yourself, and it may just be your strips.
