I had for lunch, potato, beans and fish fingers,.and a slice of bread (One of my favorite meals)...Just tested my BS and it's 17.5 :-(
I'm not sure I can keep this diet up of boring food......How do you guys do it?? I salute you all.....

I have to say.....just like Douglas Reynholm said at the end of the ''IT crowd'' episode when going out with the sex changer ''IT'S JUST NOT THE SAME!!'' ...

Just count the carbs and do the right amount of insulin. Then you can eat anything you want as long as you count the carbs and do the right insulin to match.
Obviously a healthy balanced diet is recommended.

Low carbs doesn't have to be boring so many different flavours to be had

Ask your doctor whether the DAFNE course is available in your area - it stands for Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating - and it teaches you just that!

Hey - you need to have a varied diet so just ensure you've taken the right dose and test again before next mealtime - should be fine. You still have to enjoy life

One of the things I note from your signature is that you are using twice daily injections. It's much harder to eat the variety that people can eat if you are on that regime and requires a lot more discipline about what you eat and when. Multiple Daily Injections (MDI) in association with DAFNE does give you much more flexibility in how you eat and manage steady blood glucose levels.

It may be worth discussing this with your clinic.

Hi @tim2000s .....and all....thanks for the reply!!
I have been living outside the UK for quite a few years.... 12 years in The Czech Rep, and 3 Years in Thailand.....And all my doctors have not spoken English very well (This might give others thinking to travel some idea of the complications) , and all have given me different insulin regimes...In Czech I was on 3 jabs a day of act-rapid, and 1 jab of insulatard for the night time....then I arrived in Thailand, and the doctor there said ''You don't need 4 jabs a day....only 2 of mixtard''...Wow! I thought wonderful, only 2 jabs a day (Oh! And by the way...Insulatard does not exist in Thailand)....However, after 3 years in Thailand and returning to Czech, and registering with a new doctor....we found out that my liver and my health was in big trouble!! (I have to say I did eat and drink what I liked, this thinking I was OK).....I did not know my BS was high...I thought I was doing well :-( No going to the toilet loads of time, not feeling tired, and no dry lips etc... etc. etc.....Doctor said my body was addicted to sugar ....never heard that before
Now this is a complete turn around story.....I have followed all your advice on giving up potatoes, pasta and rice....and guess what? I am still on mixtard twice a day; however, and with my new doctors permission, a shot of Novorapid only when needed.......So after testing a million times :-( Believe me I have spent a small fortune on test strips.....Definitely no starch or sugars around breakfast or lunch time....Dinner however, is possible but with a touch of Novorapid....And no eating after 7pm
The moral of this story is.....do your own report and see what YOU can eat (Sod the expense, it's your life) ......And what insulin YOU need.
That's my story........ Oh! I now speak Czech, and a little Thai now Communicating with the doctors is a must!! Or you just ain't going to get what you need.

Sounds like you've lived a great life living in those countries, and experiencing so much. My own approach is just try and understand how many carbs you are eating, and give myself the corresponding insulin. I love to party even at the age of 40 and diabetes doesn't stop me

@JRW ....your the kind of person I love....Don't let the big ''D'' get you down!! If we can't live, then what else have we left?
I should get into this carb counting lark, but after 47 years of the big ''D'' I just can't seem to get the interest.....It's (Kind of) stolen most of my life, so let it take the rest I say Live long and prosper.....Party!!

I hope you guys don't mind me reminiscing (Hope I spelt that right)......But writing this here helps getting this off my chest....never told anyone this......
I was 5 years old when diagnosed with diabetes 1 (Fell out of a window 4 floors up) ....After another few days went into a coma for a few days (Not sure how long, mum told me 2 days).....I remember waking up in the worst, cold looking hospital you could ever imagine....... 1967 London South Ealing Hospital.....Every morning having a bath on my own (Obviously the nurse put me there) ******** myself! And wondering what the hell was going on.....I could hear screaming from the window that was a little a-jar above the door.....I remember this quite well. Very scary!
However.....
It was Christmas and I can remember Father Christmas giving out presents.....Then came the injections...a glass syringe (Which I can remember having for many years....still have it somewhere) with a huge needle....Not like today's needles....But didn't they hurt big time.....I'm drifting into different times of the past.....sorry!

My father...who was quite a hard man I might say....always cried :-( when he came to see me.....He would say I was so skinny.....I was quite bad said mother.....Doctors were not sure what I had at the time....Lost weight so quickly mum said.....

Mum always told me the stories of what happened (Bless her soul).....She saved me.......I can not thank her enough, and now I wont get the chance...... :-(
Thanks for reading xxxxxx

Totally agree with the bolded, diabetes may slow us down sometimes, but should never stop us. We sometimes get kicked in the teeth in life, it's how you respond that is the measure.

A reading of 17.5 means you are suffering huge nerve damage.
Oh to be able to eat anything I like by having an injection ...... T2 here.
