Hi fellow sufferers,

I am John and new to this forum.

Both my wife and I have been diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes.

My wife has suddenly started getting cramp in her feet and hands and I am wondering if this could be as a result of having Type 2.

I have read that those using Statins, which my wife and I are, may be prone to cramps in their legs but I cannot find anything about feet and hands.

Does anyone have any information about this please?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

John

Hi John and welcome to the forum.

There are several possibilities as this article shows.

I would see your G.P. so that he can make an assessment. There is a blood test that can be done to see if statins are causing problems.

How are you both managing your diabetes? Any questions then ask away.

Thanks for the welcome CC and for the link.

Wifey has made an appointment and will be seeing her doctor tomorrow.

Simvastatin is simply making a bad situation worse. I have had these problems and after about a years worth of experimenting have come to the conclusion that in my case they are muscle cramps which are exacerbated by taking simvastatin. If I reduce either the activity or the statin, there is an improvement. I can increase my exercise at a more gentle rate but I know, even without taking statins, if I over do it, I will get bad attacks. If I also take statins, I get them much more frequently and really have to cut back on the amount of exercise. I hope to switch to a different type of statin next.

Magnesium can sometimes help with cramps. And it is good for your heart too.
