Hi i do not normally get head aches as in i have had a few but not many. I have had pretty good control the last 6 days some of the best ive had in a long while but i have had thumping headaches at the back of my head and sore neck for 6-7 days too.

Does anyone know if this is common with better control after a period of ropey control?

I believe (but may be mistaken) they say not to get too good control if you are suffering with diabetic retinopathy as it can lead to complications? Has anyone experienced the above?

I have seen the doctor tonight and have some scans booked but i am trying to see if any other experiences. Many thanks

I suffer headaches and migraines so a few thoughts:
1 hydration (drinking water) is very important. Lack cause headaches
2 salt ditto. Sudden decrease in ready meals means need to add to real foods
3 postural. Soemtime a good few minutes of neck/head stretches cures mine
4 not diagnosing, but when I first went drastically low carb the sugars fleeing out of my body caused all sorts of flu like, and neuropathy type symptoms. Took a few weeks to clear
5 none of the above means don't see your doctor

Hi @holdem,

I've not had that problem, however if you've run high for a long time (or low for that matter), the brain gets used to the higher levels as 'normal'. If you adjust the levels (back in range) it can take time for your 'normal' to adjust. (so yes its possible).

Having said that - the advice above from @MrsA2 is spot on - it could be related to lots of other things too.

Didn't have migraines till 10 years ago or so - now they are an occasional 'feature' but I don' think thats related to my diabetes - just a new 'feature'

I have migraines, have had them all my life, but lately I've had the same kind of pain but in different areas than what I'm used to: the intensity is much the same though. Both eyes just about burn out of my head, but mainly the back of my head and neck will be killing me, besides nausea as a cherry on top: turns out it's a blood pressure thing. If you can get yourself a cuff to see what your blood pressure gets up to when this happens, that'd be helpful, potentially... Before you take more salt rather than cutting back, as more salt would make things a lot worse if it is a high blood pressure issue. My doc recommended over-the-counter ibuprofen for the pain, which helps in about 30 to 45 minutes after taking it, though I'm not supposed to have NSAIDs. (If the pain is bad enough though, I'll take the weeks-long nosebleeds without complaint!).

Good luck getting definitive answers, and treatment to suit!
Hugs,
Jo

Interesting. My BP is always low to normal so it's not high blood pressure causes mine. Not to say it isn't a case for others though.
Ages ago I read somewhere that it's a combination of triggers causes a migriane. Trouble is there can be hundreds of triggers and millions of combinations. A trigger of mine is reflected or bright light, but not always. Ditto orange juice.
I had a sudden one this afternoon. No idea what trigger just about out the blue. Had had neck muscle stiffness and thought stretches had worked but then wham, pain, confusion nausea. Needed medication and a sleep. It was fine within 90 minutes
Hugs to all sufferers

Oh, I think I might not've made myself clear, I'm sorry! : I've had a headaches brought on by sudden spikes in blood pressure, (Normally I was 110/70, these days normal seems to be 120/80, but spikes of 180/100 can occur, and anything over 140/90 will cause a headache from my neck) but while they were the intensity of a migraine, the pain was somewhere else: my neck and both eyes, rather than one temple/eye. Also, triptans just made it worse, not better. Because migraine meds can up blood pressure by about 10 points... Trying to put out fire with gasoline. So now I test what my blood pressure is doing before I treat any pain in the head I'm not 100% on. My migraines are usually hormonal, but could also be brought on by stress, bright (sun)light, certain foods, like, indeed, oranges and certain chocolates, herbal mixtures with salt in them, humid, warm weather, loud noises, jet lag, strong perfumes/afgter shave, what have you. I should just stay in a dark room with bubble wrap around me 24/7, haha. :)

Glad you got the attack licked in 90 minutes, but I also know those 90 minutes last for nigh on an eternity... I hope it stays away now, and whatever triggered it won't rear it's ugly head again. Be gentle with yourself today eh.
Hugs,
Jo
