Cure or better control

Ive been diabetic 30 odd years ive not seen much difference in insulin its still fast acting and slow acting insuulins, the syringes have defo changed i used a glass syring when i 1st got type 1 now i use a pen.
Ive read alot lately about stem cells and personaly think its our only way of a cure but i would rather have spot on control then sit and hope for a cure that in my opinion will never happen, to the treasuary diabetics are worth trillions in tax there get from drug companys and can you imagian how many ppl would be jobless if all diabetics were gone for good, no more specialist diabetic murses no more diabetic doctors etc etc.

A good little rant and begs some interesting questions. I hope for a cure and hope that politicians never get in the way of this. Like you though I agree, there has to be an element of cynicism due to their relationship with drug companies. You don't however mention insulin pumps which I think are amazing things. Whilst not a cure, they are a big step forward. Medtrnoic, and others im sure, are currently working on a continuous loop system which will read your BS and adjust/stop insulin accordingly then this will be another huge step forward. I also think that the possible introduction of non-invasive blood testing instead of the endless painful finger testing will be another major step forward. I am signed up for a newsletter with Senseonics which are hoping to get such a device approved in Europe - no idea how they're getting on with this mind you! :thumbup:
 
I was offered a pump bac in the 80s i think and at the time my parents response was he climbs trees lol and recently i was offered a pump afew ?s from me and it was decided there not 4 me @ the mo im on lantus and novorapid which i find brilliant.
Because im blind in 1 eye and partialy sighted in the other (retinopathy) i have to hope that these stem cells are the real deal just because blindness costs the taxpayer £s i know it abit cynical but i believe thats how the real world works unfortunatly.
 
I think the real world has too much money invested by the governments and Companies to find a cure.

You only have to look at the bird flu and flu in general cost of injections on a yearly basis for some, for the utter waste our government spent on some drug for the epidemic flu etc and even colds...

Personally I think the increase of diabetes in the population is more likely to make the medicines easier to get... Off the shelf and us paying... Like the cold remedies!!! Than a cure ever being found.

Same goes for other diseases too, theres too much money and people in drugs and governments to ever have a cure.
 
I dont believe diabetes will be cured like you say to much money involved but retinopathy i believe is possible as there is currently no drugs to help/prevent retinopathy. Ive had extensive laser treatment and a ( excuse me spelling) victromatry but all that has syopped now so the cost to the nhs is minimal now
