How can I get involved in trials? I really need to get rid of my diabetes so my partner and I can start having children I don't want to risk my children having diabetes

As far as I am aware, there is NO cure for diabetes, contrary to some information on the internet, always try to beware of these 'miracles' and have an open mind too.

Best wishes RRB

If you want to try to reverse your condition, and get it into some form of remission, then you could have a read of Professor Taylor's work and discuss it with your GP. There are a few people on here who have achieved excellent results using this. Whether it's a cure or a remission situation is open to lively debate.

Take your time going through it, as there are quite a few links on the page: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/magres/research/diabetes/reversal.htm

Then, I'm sure you will l have more, probably more focused questions to ask.

Good luck!

If your diabetes is genetic there is a chance you may pass it on to your children, no matter how well controlled your levels are. If it is not genetic you can't pass it on to your children.

There is medical research going on and if you live near a large research centre then you can take part but it isn't usually to do with a cure. I've taken part in several research projects but what I have done isn't necessarily going to help me, but will give information for the future. http://www.ukdrn.org/lrn/default.aspx.html

Getting involved with research should not be seen as a way to cure your diabetes or to have a child. If they know you wish to have children they could actually refuse you for any study...

Normally the research companies will state their terms of criteria for age, sex, hba1c and pregnancy etc...

I do blood tests for research at QE2 hosp in Birmingham for 10 years. Just donate my blood and have general measurements etc done. If companies need blood from a female, long term diabetic.. My blood will be given...
