Help! I'm a newby type 2 diabetic. I've had cystitis for 3 days now, today being the worse  and have been drinking loads of water and taking Canesten Oasis for it last night and today, having had 5 doses. I have just read on the packet (looked but didn't see it before) ' DO NOT TAKE IF YOU SUFFER FROM DIABETES'.... What can I take? Hoping for a Dr's appointment tomorrow before I go    ! I've been very good trying to eat the right things ready for my first blood test soon, since my diagnosis, but this will have blown my levels out the window. At least IF I can get an appointment tomorrow I am going to ask to be referred to the dietician as I need help. I am losing weight still, slowly but steadily. But this $%^%$££ infection has not helped
Any ideas folks what I can take tonight?

Hi. Candida is a very common problem when your blood sugar is too high; I had it at diagnosis. The best thing you can do is to get your BS below about 11'ish mmol when the kidneys will stop dumping sugar. Do try to get a meter to test your blood sugar. This will guide you as to which foods are causing your sugars to rise. Be aware that many dieticians still offer the bad advice to have carbs with every meal. Most of us on the forum would say you must keep your carb intake down e.g. below 150gm per day or even less and have low GI carbs where you can. There is lots of advice on the website for healthy eating for diabetics (and others!). If you do this and your sugars come down your cystitis should hopefully fade away.
