I can't remember the sum we were given to work out the correct cps! Eg I the dafne book 240g portion of chips has 7.5 cps but I had a 150g portion. Can anyone help me with how to work this out? Complete mind blank!

Whats your ratio? im no mathmetician but it looks to be 3.5 as a guestimate

Think i worked it as 4.5

Divided 7.5 by 240 then times by 150

You probably heard the cogs turning when i was doing some sums though! i am 1 to 1 too at least its easier to calculate at 1 to 1. on the course one guy was a quarter to 1 that would have been tough

I can't speak much for the use of carbohydrate portions, I don't understand them and don't feel I'll ever need to. I'm assuming that's what cps stands for?

Have you ever thought of using grams instead? It makes things a lot easier I've heard.

I find it pretty straight forward to be honest. 50g carbs = 5cps 75g = 7.5cps etc. It's just the working out the math when the nutritional information isn't available. I had chip shop chips tonight (not great I know) and the dafne book gave carb information for a 240g portion but I only ate 150g worth so that part I struggle with as I'm not great at math but the working out above was perfect! I suppose it's just whatever your used to

Yeah I guess you're right, if you can get used to that then stick at it!

I had a chippie as well tonight, got to be done though:)

Carbs and cals is a pretty good mobile phone app/book for estimating carb content in meals from photographs. That may be of use to you, I use it now and again when eating unfamiliar foods that I've not made myself.

The only issue with CPs is that when people post their ratios it can cause confusion eg if someone were to,say their ratio was 1:2 most people would assume that they needed a lot of insulin for their carbs (ie 1 unit for 2grams of carbs) but they could mean 1 unit to 2CPS, which is a different matter altogether!

Use what you're happy with @samantha13 :) The only thing that matters is if it works for you :)

You earned your chips after all that Maths! : D

OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Diabetics eating chips. Whatever next?
Sticky toffee pudding and custard???????
Now there's a thought next time I eat out.;);););););)

I'm just away to put my chocolate chip cookies in the oven. Reckless diabetic number one right here:)

Will be armed with a 30 minute pre-bolus though, so it's not all Russian roulette haha.

Would I be correct in thinking you're not a follower of LCHF :):):).
Have to admit I eat sensibly BUT if I have a craving I never say no.
Chocolate chip cookies this time of night . You must be a true Scotsman.;)

Haha no I'm not. When at work I eat 130g per day and when I'm home normally somewhere between 230-300g. Somewhat moderate but definitely not LCHF; I'm just too much of a carb fiend.

Oh and yes, definitely a true Scot. Cookies are just to start, battered mars bars are tonight's main event:)

I swear on my life that the last statement was a joke!

Battered Mars bars or not you sound like a happy diabetic.
That's the biggest part of the battle won in my book.
Enjoy the cookies.
Banana and peanut butter for me.

Well I've been type 1 all the 27 yrs as a diabetic and it's only since my DAFNE course and i shall spell this out "Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating" that i have taken into consideration what i eat all of the time. In other words I bolus for every carb eaten. I love biscuits and chocolate infact if i was Gay i would probably marry Mr Cadbury.

I think after that a chocolate biscuit is in order lol.

@rockape37 . Hi Martin.
On account the good Me Cadbury seems to spend most nights at my house satisfying my better half on the sofa, I fear your imminent departure from the closest may prove to be a bit premature.:D:D:D:D:D
Nice to know that there are people out there who control and are not controlled.
