I've had an email confirming my place on the ***** course followed swiftly by another from the DSN who runs the course asking
"As you are prescribed NovoRapid, would you say you take it with most meals?
Just wondering but do you restrict Carbohydrates since your diagnosis? Some people do but we don’t encourage a low carb diet for people with diabetes".

I wonder why she asks and wonder why it's discouraged, I just think it's a bit daft. I wonder if I'll be barred as being a little on the radical side because I don't have Novo with every meal, perhaps might upset proceedings.:p:hilarious::shifty::D

I think you may be being a bit sensitive.
The email you quote asks if you take NovoRapid with most meals and whilst she says they don't encourage a low carb diet, she does not say they discourage it.
There are probably a few reasons behind this such as many finding they can maintain good diabetes management, and many people will find low carb too restrictive for their chosen lifestyle. And for many, the shock of being diagnosed is enough to get their head around with injections and testing, that adding a change of diet is too much.
It is great that you have adopted low carb and you find it is working for you.

I would encourage you to attend the course with an open mind.
I went to the DAFNE equivalent course a couple of years ago after 10 years with type 1 and learnt a few new things. The two big benefits for me was access to a pump (the course is a pre-requisite for pump in my area) and meeting other people with type 1. Whilst we can read about how people are managing their diabetes and their struggles, nothing matches meeting people face to face and talking to them.

@SueJB .
Dosage Adjustment For Normal Eating DAFNE.
One thing with DAFNE is that it doesn’t advocate any specific diet and it most definitely not some type of weight loss programme, which some people think it is ( not you I feel from your posts on the forum )
Basically they want you to eat normally ( defining normal is always going to cause debate ) and then inject the correct amount of insulin to achieve good control.
On my course we had 10 T1’s and we all had massively varied diets and no point was anyone dissuaded from following their diet.
I can’t think of any reason why you will not benefit from the course. If your diet doesn’t require a bolus injection then so be it.
Providing you are happy with your BS levels you will be fine.
It’s also great to meet and talk face to face with other T1’s . You’ll be surprised at what you discover.

So sorry, you're quite right @helensaramay , don't encourage is not the same as discourage. Thanks so much for that.
I haven't adopted a low carb diet though, I've just tweaked what I was already eating before T1. I never thought I was "doing" carb it was just what I liked eating.
I'm definitely going to attend the course, I really want to talk to others and yep, as the prerequisite for getting a pump, might want one in the future (How bad is that as a reason to go?!!!!!)
Thanks for the encouragement, I was sort of thinking about not bothering.
Anyway, in the 15 months since T1Dx, I've learnt masses from everyone............ thanks so much for all the advice and support.
As an aside, I equate Dafne, the name with my aunt *****, nothing rude in that just simple word association........... but it makes me laugh

Thanks @therower like the positivity and I'm always open
to learning

The name ***** (1) is a Latin baby name. In Latin the meaning of the name ***** (2) is: From France, or free one. Feminine of Francis.
When this is posted, it'll be moderated automatically and the diminutive form in (1) and (2) with be replaced by *****
I don't understand why

the whole reason for the course...............well a major one anyway, but to reiterate whats been said Sue, meeting fellow T1s is enlightening at the least - we are all different - and that will become apparent even more so. :hilarious:

Enjoy the course!

I found it a waste of time honestly - possibly why I wasn't invited back?

I attended ONLY because I wanted a pump, I made it known and was unpopular from the start (I was the only coeliac too so couldn't fully participate)

Only good thing was I did get a pump eventually.
