Hi to all,

I am taking dapagaflozin for diabetes but its getting a bit much being in the loo all the time as sugar is in my urine I will mention it next week when I go for a blood test but it's increasing my urine output so what's the alternative tonight my bs was 16.1 not been like that for ages.

Any suggestions my bs is normally below 10.

How many carbs are you eating in your diet? The normal suggestion is to reduce them but you'd need to be slightly careful not to go hypo with the dapagaflozin... Some people manage to come off insulin by reducing carbs but I don't know how much scope you've got for reduction.

Good luck.

Hi Ellie,

Not eating many about 20 carbs if that amount
Only that high this teatime usually low carb I had home made soup and a cabita roll and a fibre bar just because I was hungry after looking after grandchildren today and needed some energy.

As my HbA1c was so high ..Dapagliflozin was added to Metformin in an attempt to get me ✻somewhere safer✻ ..which resulted in hourly toilet trips which were a little difficult to organize when I went food-shopping ..although my next HbA1c looked promising ..the one after that was going up again ..and at that point ..I was also put on Gliclazide ..and this has resulted in toilet trips every 90 minutes ..which makes my life a wee bit easier ..I have mentioned elsewhere, so I'll repeat it here ..my blood sugar levels jumped into the danger 'Red Zone' after I became the victim of a crime ..adding injury to injury.

Ajax,

I hope your blood sugars are now at a better level than when you were in the red zone.

Hi all, just wanted a bit of advice. So I’m type 2, I take metformin and am on Ozempic injection for weight loss. I also go to slimming world. I was also taking dapagliflozin until around 1.5 weeks ago. Basically I had my diabetic review and my blood sugar was great hbA1C of 39 great!! So the nurse offered me to come off either dapagliflozin or ozempic, because I’m on a weight loss journey and don’t like that dap makes your wee smell I chose to come off dap. I started getting really bad palpitations around 2 days later. These have persisted and got gradually worse until today they were continuous! I went to slimming world on my way home and have put on 4lb! I was so upset because I have tried hard and been to the gym etc. so when I came home I thought sod it and took a dap. Within an hour the palpitations have completely stopped! I am going to consult my doctors but as everything at the moment that takes ages. So I wondered if anyone else has stopped taking dap and has experienced similar with regards to palpatations. I’m concerned that it may have been hiding water retention and by coming off of it it’s brought it out and now I took one it’s helped . Or is it just a conincidence? Just looking for experiences! X

Dapagliflozin has become the new Wunderkid on the block and is being prescribed to correct heart timing issues in heart failure. It affects the heart, and that may be increasing fluid retention. In my case, I am on water tablets too, and this balances out the retention issue. Discuss with GP.

Thanks, I don’t have fluid it’s a theory I have about once I stopped the tablets.
I have done an e consult with my gp so hopefully I’ll hear from them today. Tiredness sometimes gives me palpitations and I get anxiety but this has been crazy. Came close to a and e a few times!
