I received a letter from my GP inviting me to take part in the Diabetes Alliance for Research in England study. The main purpose seems to be to study the genetic code of people with diabetes to help in the treatment and prevention of diabetes. Has anyone had any experience of this study?

No but it seems a really good idea to have that mapped...
 
I took part in this, probably a couple of years ago. From what I can remember I just had to answer some questions on the day and do a blood test. Thought I might as well try and help in some way if I could.
 
Sounds like a good idea. I have never heard of it before but would be happy to take part if I was asked.
 
I'm part of it but yet to have my "interview" they were at my last retinopathy clinic asking people if they were willing to take part. The girl was from Newcastle university and she asked a couple of questions on the day then said there would be a 45minute questionnaire that would be face to face - I said that would be difficult for me to get to and she said they could do it at my home.

We were chatting in general and it turned out she was T1 (nothing to do with the study just a coincidence) and she was a low carber- we got proper giddy discussing it and we had to make ourselves stop as she was missing catching the other people at the clinic lol
 
Finally got called to an appointment for the DARE study and went today. It took about 30mins just some questions about the medical history of myself and my relatives, measurements and weight, blood and urine sample. The research is about diabetes and genetics but I mentioned "Low Carb Diet" as many times as possible.

Do they intend to keep volunteers updated at all?
