I'll third sticking to what you are doing.. probably the best way to control Type 2 is keto with maybe a bit of intermittent fasting once you aren't feeling hungry.Hi all, can you please help, there is so much conflicting information on what we should and shouldn't eat and what can lead to diabetes and cancers, (Red meat to much protein, fats), (sugars to many carbs), (Fasting, not fasting) ,long term effects of any one diet on ones health.
The other question I have is about the Dash diet, have any of you tried this?
Newly appointed diabetes sufferer, Ian.
PS I am trying the low carb diet(keto)
If I were you I’d stick with the low carb diet. The DASH diet is to control high BP and is around 250 - 350g carbs per day so won’t be good for your type 2. When I was diagnosed with type 2 I was on two BP meds. As a result of low carbing I lost a shed load of weight and my BP came down to the point where I have come off one BP med.
If you stick with the low carbing you might just treat both your type 2 and hypertension, if that’s why you’re enquiring about DASH.
Cholesterol doesn't clog your arteries it keeps you alive.. here's a thread I prepared earlier...How about your cholesterol? Has that fallen? The bad stuff that clogs your arteries.
And thank you for your reply
That will completely depend on the meds. What are you taking? What are your thoughts on water fasting and taking meds or abstaining from them while fasting?
I have done a 5 day fast before, before I got diabetes.

Metformin 2 and statins 1 and high blood pressure tablet one a dayThat will completely depend on the meds. What are you taking?
I'm just over half way through a 7 day pseudo fast .
And what do you mean by pseudo fast?Metformin 2 and statins 1 and high blood pressure tablet one a day
Not pure water.. first 4 days were coffee with double cream along with tea with lactofree milk. After 4 days (yesterday) I added in 4 poached eggs with 20g of butter as an evening meal which I'll carry on until Saturday evening when I'll break with a "proper" meaty meal. And what do you mean by pseudo fast?
Any idea why statins? As for metformin you should check with your doc but it shouldn't really cause any probs providing you aren't causing any spikes with food and obviously when fasting you should be fine. Blood pressure.. mine dropped when losing weight so monitor yourself to make sure you don't go to low.Metformin 2 and statins 1 and high blood pressure tablet one a day

I am just watching on YouTube Is water fasting safe, Dr. Goldhamer, its interesting as he also advocates a plant based diet. Not pure water.. first 4 days were coffee with double cream along with tea with lactofree milk. Thanks for your reply, no I don't know what the other numbers are.Have you any idea what your breakdown was? (HDL/LDL/Triglycerides). The total cholesterol is fairly meaningless as it is a total of the good stuff and the less good stuff, so if your good stuff is high so your total will be. GPs are fixated on total cholesterol, but even the NICE recommendations say this is not right. It is what the total is made up of that is important.
I have read pretty extensively on the subject and done a few myself.. never heard of that particular doc but would certainly never advocate a PBD.I am just watching on YouTube Is water fasting safe, Dr. Goldhamer, its interesting as he also advocates a plant based diet.
Have you watched the science of fasting, thats really interesting .
