Hi All .

My own daughter 27years old today had her 2nd blood glucose fasting test taken.
She has had a viral flu bug and has tested somewhat positive in the first test plus her urine was
very positive for sugar present .

I am a bundle of worry with this news I must admit ...
Her diet is terrible she loves anything and everything "white or beige"
Never has or will listen to either me, her dad or even her own husband ...
Hates cardboard - as she calls anything brown[bread, pasta, rice etc] and hates plant foods as
she calls spinach, brocolli n other veggies !!!

Often warned her she could end up like me [diabetic ] as it does run in the family.
[me and her dad's father are diabetic]
As I know the road isnt easy and what lies ahead for her - if she is .

Keep feeling queasy with worry and hubby is as worried too .

She herself says she wasnt very suprised - What a kid
Yep my daughter is my child [kid] even at 27 .

She has a deep fear of needles too and will be worse for this .
She only told us this news last friday after her first test was somewhat positive ?
[whatever this means I am unsure ]

Nurse wants her to have another test to properly confirm .
She had this done this morning at local hospital .

So as we wait - me and her dad worry .
Roll on next friday - we find out then .
Am trying to keep myself busy and not think the worst of things .

Anna.

hallo to you both
this may not be of help ,but he goes
if yes if your daughter is confim to have diabetes .it will poss be controled by tablets .and diet
and as you know denial is going to be a issue let if flow just the odd advice now and again
if she does go on insulin the insulin pump is the way forward ..
if you know any person of the same age and is diabetic and is more of a friend just ask for there help
but just very. very slowly
my old dad used to tell me your breath smells of actone.. go out and dig the garden to use up exess sugar or go for a walk
that was when i was 14
had this odd diabeties for 55 years still going will not tell what i have had done to keep me going but friend and family help
insulin from day one in 1957
nhs and all what they do is fan static
good luck vic hill

Oh Anna, what a worrying time for you, sending you a big comforting hug x x

Of course you worry about your children, doesnt matter how old/young they are but you know even if your daughter ends up diagnosed as diabetic she will get to grips with it all just fine.
She may rebel, go into denial for a while, but she has had a good example in you, seen you dealing with issues, she is loved, she is intelligent and determined, she will work things out ok, I am pretty sure of that.

Much love
Judith x x

Hi All .

Have had her call us [ dad/mum] they want another full fasting glucose test plus urine again ! Why eh?
Next weds - so we are still none the rudddy wiser :?
Its getting a bit annoying now !

She is either sky high or low ... with her BG levels currently.
Every urine test is positive with proteins and sugar present though .

She tells us she gets the shakes if misses her meals etc...
She is 28years old in July this year .

Her diet is quite poor and she likes full sugar pepsi/cola etc...
Use's this as a quick fix if she gets shakey!

Believe me - I have sooooo tried to re-educate her but as I am her mum
she just wont 'listen' to me

Her dad can usually talk sense 'into' her [daddy's girl thing!]
She says that she always prefer the taste of proper pepsi or cola .
The other [no sugar] just tastes like watery 'fizz'
[she always has an answer for her poor diet and food/drink choices!]

Sometimes, I confess that I just 'give up' with her or else she sends me loopy
and I get mad with her, then 'my' blood sugars go 'up' with the stress/worry of her ...

So we are none the wiser nor much further forward on this .
Still we wait

Thanks for the thoughts and hug too .
Need them today - as feel quite let down as well as baffled
as why? they need another full set of tests!
I even grilled her with you 'did go' last time? as I know she sooooo hates and fears needles .
Have to try and trust her at 27yrs old now even though she is still my [baby] child .

Anna.

Worrying time for you all Anna, your daughter needs to see the error of her ways with regards to diet and start to listen to what she is being told.

Hi All .

We find out tomorrow morning - what is what - with our daughter
Strangely feeling quite positive I think? [dunno why?]
This may be to do with the fact we have managed to get her set up with a meter and testing kit .
She has only done a couple of tests with it - due to her needle phobia/fear .
Sweats and trembles, whilst plucking up own courage to just stab her finger with the needle!

Any ideas how I can get things 'through' to her without getting angry or mad with her :x

Rude people !
Good luck for tomorrow ! Hope her test proves negative ! If not, she has a superb mum to guide her and advise her !
Your child is no different to many others, they like to do exactly the opposite of what you advise them ;-) She'll thank you one day I'm sure !

Oh Happy Days :D

Update on our daughter - she is normal for 'now' they have said .
Will continue to test her every 3 months and want to still monitor her levels .

She has to test her blood sugars 3 times a day and try to amend her diet with more healthy
foods .
She has got some glucose piddle sticks to use with her urine .
So can test for protein/glucose in her urine.
[ I got her sorted out with a meter etc, last week as we had been using mine between us initially ]

The DSN says she is soooo close to the "just normal" range - there is still a strong chance she ' will still ' get it
given her poor diet and ways !
I know this - yet am so relieved she has a chance to change/improve things .
It's just HOW to re-educate her without her going mad at 'us' [me and her dad]
Then I get angry at her anger and stubborness to change etc .

Medically the DSN [GP surgery based] and her own GP are willing to keep they're eye on her .
So to keep her checked and ongoing monitored is the best careplan and tactic medically for now .
She is happy to do this and agreed with all that was said too .

Relieved and happy parents her dad and myself
Kids eh - you NEVER stop worrying over them nor loving them ...

Anna.

Sounds like a good result, and I'm happy for you and your daughter :) And also that they are gonna keep a close eye on her, must be a relief to know they are not just 'casting her out!'
