FBG of 4 is actually perfectly normal. I used to have FBG of 3.8 before diabetes. Normal FBG is up to 5.6.

Hi. Don't forget DVLA 'Five to drive' and if between 4 and 5 have some carbs before driving? I start having hypo symptoms at or below 4.5 but not always.

But you are on fast acting insulin.

I was prescribed metformin for pre diabetes (diagnosed following a GTT - glucose tolerance test). I had also had gestational diabetes but in those days they didn't seem to take gestational diabetes very seriously (at least I was never really given any advice on it or what to do about it although I was abroad at the time) . Strangely I don't remember having it with my second pregnancy. Anyway, I decided not to take it nor the statins offered me at the same time. I was not overweight and so didn't need an appetite suppressant and metformin doesn't actually make much change in BG levels (not nearly as much as a low carb higher good fats diet and exercising after meals does anyway). Statins I wouldn't touch with a bargepole.
Finally got an Hba1c done and am now in non-diabetic territory after low carbing. However my FBG is often in mid 6's but it is (contrary to popular belief) never the lowest of the day. Before evening meal I am often about 4.5 even if I was 6.8 in the morning. I have stopped worrying about FBG.

I agree entirely about FBG levels. They are too unpredictable and subject to other factors. Our natural insulin tends to work better as the day progresses, so our pre-evening meal levels will often be the lowest of the day unless, of course, we have recently consumed a snack.

I think? ... my doctor told me I was 8.6 when she diagnosed me with Type 2 last January. Is this high?

Have you asked for a print out of those diagnosis test results like I suggested on your thread yet? It is unlikely you were diagnosed an one fasting blood glucose test alone. We normally have an HbA1c test. Your 8.6 could be either, but as a fasting blood glucose test and an HbA1c are measured in completely different units, it makes a whole world of difference. You need to know!

A fasting blood glucose test is just a snapshot of what your level was at the moment the test was taken and is measured in mmol/l. 8.6 is above the diabetic level.
An HbA1c measures blood glucose over the previous 2 to 3 months on average. 8.6% (or 70.5mmol/mol) equates to 11.1mmol/l and is therefore higher.

Hi. Yes I went for the blood test and also had to take a water sample too. I asked about a printout but the nurse said they only do that if I'm to go to a hospital apart from the one the tests are being sent to. Apart from this blood test I've just had the fasting one five months ago so I'm even more confused now?
