My fasting readings have been drifting up in recent months - towards 7, whereas they have been around 6. Occasional readings in the small hours have been around 6, so a dawn effect is significant.

I asked the Dr for slow release MF to be taken at night as an experiment. Fasting readings are now around 6.

I still take the normal MF morning & midday. Once I have established a consistent trend, I shall try all slow release.

At my 6 month review last month, my HBA was 6.7, up from 6.3. My meter average was 6.8.

I'm up and down like a yo yo most of the time with my readings and when I have the blood test at the clinic for my three months averages I come out fine but averages don't show the spikes.
If my reading was 14 for ten sraight days and then 1 for ten straight days the average would come out at 7 making me look pretty good even though I'd been having life threatening spikes.
These numbers are made up right now of course just to show that averages hide more information than they reveal ... I think.

My understanding is that normal MF works for about 8 hours, so taking it at 6-7 p.m. means that it runs out by 2-3 am, & its in my system to counteract the dawn effect. I'll be interested in the longer term results - and any other' experience with slow release MF.

Hi

I am managing my dawn effect by taking Metformin at 3 a.m in the morning. Any experience on this way of taking the medication?

That's interesting Ian
I thought of asking for the Met SR, since I only use 2 x 500Mg per day and eat my main meal mid day. Timing it can get difficult.
I can keep my fasting down by eating only a LC snack in the evening.

Hi, I am interested in the information about how long metformin lasts, but can anyone tell me how quickly they start to work. Thanks
