Dealing with false hypos

Other day coming back from work I started feeling awful in a way I've never done before.

Feel OKish by time I get home and test, but low and behold bgs was at 4.8 by then (when its normally 5-6 for me), which I'm guessing means it was closer to 4.0 when I felt pants.

Obvs nowhere near a 'real' hypo (plus take met only, so no danger from meds as cause), but is there anyway to deal with these? Would eating something sweet just make things worse as a T2D?

I suspect that the 4's can be defined as hypoglycemia as time goes by and your age is a factor. I used to tolerate the 3s in the first few diabetic years, but now after 10 years, the 4s are certainly hypos. Perhaps a Medical journal has something on this. I did read one that says as you get older it is more dangerous to be low even at 3 that have hyperglycemic numbers.

I found that a cup of something warm to drink - in my case a pot of mint and licorice tea - did help when I was feeling my BG drop in the afternoons. I think that the soothing warmth and relaxation had a lot to do with it, also perhaps the hydration.
I did find that a couple of grapes would help when I felt really bad - also taken with a hot drink, but having found that my BG was not really low I decided to go with just the drink and see what happened.

You should be pleased - your liver kicked in, as it is meant to, and brought you back up to 4.8. There was no need to "treat" the hypo. Your liver did it for you. Had you been at home when you felt awful, a test may have told you why, and a cup of tea with a drop of milk may have been all that was necessary - and to be honest, you really don't know if this was low BS or some other reason why you felt bad.
