like most people suddenly finding you have the d word it can be scary. a thousand thoughts go through your head. what will i eat? will I drop dead/ go blind etc.
That was me in November. today is a different story I go to the Gym twice a week, sing in a band i am even working on a dance project.

the point is its so easy to give up and have the poor me attitude or realise as long as you look after yourself keep appointments you can have an amazing life go do things you always wanted to after there are diabetic rock stars. actors. sports people even the leader of our country (like it or not)is a diabetic.

you not a victim and as my brother told me this is not a death sentence.

Exactly my thoughts.
I was incredibly lucky to have a wonderful nurse when I was first diagnosed.
I am sure she told me about BG levels, insulin types, hypos, ... but the main thing I remember is being told "diabetes should not stop you doing what you want."
And that is how I have lived for nearly 15 years - travelling around the world, doing all sorts of sports, eating all sorts of food, ...

So, it's wonderful to read this from a "Newbie".

Great thoughts @type1rockstar !
My GP told me 20 years ago (took me apart from my parents, I was 15 at the time):
Listen, this is happening. You can accept it and live a normal life, or be a crybaby (not his exact words of course...)
There are two limitation on what you cannot do as diabetic:
Be a military pilot flighting air fighters
Be a professional diver in >50m depth
Anything else is up to you.

Do you want to be a professional athlete? Go for it. Do you want to be an actor? Go for it.
Diabetes will not stop you at anything, yourself is the only obstacle...

I'm ok too...I live a normal life , I eat ,drink ,travel I consider me normal !! Tresiba and Libra help a lot. On holls at the mo and just got an upgrade to 4* because our electric kept going off in our room and i couldnt rely on the fridge keeping my insulin right( I did play on it with the manager i do have a Frigo pouch ) ! I did feel naughty but this D has to have some benefits surely !!!!!

I suppose if 1 in 16 of us have it, there's not really much scope to be `a victim'. It's a common ailment and we have to suck it up. I don't even really consider it a major change in lifestyle. All I've done is abandon carbs, collect some **** from Boots once a fortnight, test & jab 4/5 times a day adding a couple of minutes extra routine, otherwise, everything else is as normal.
