Hi,
I have a job interview to be a customer delivery assistant for a large well known supermarket. The application said I had to be confident handling a 3.5 ton truck and have a valid driving license for at least a year (all of which I am or have)

my question is, given that I'm type 1 diabetic, will the feel they can give me the job or will it restrict me? if the dvla have given me permission to drive up to 3.5 tons, surely the interviewers can't be too biased with my diabetes? should i mention it to them in the interview?

Just some extra information that I a well controlled and have never had to stop myself driving or needed any assistance for a hypo.

thanks! Joe :)

As long as DVLA say you're safe to drive and you test before and every 2 hrs then I would think you're good to go. If potential employer specifically asks, I would tell them but if they don't, I would not volunteer the information. Good luck with interview !

I can't see it restricting you, provided your well controlled and have good hypo awareness then it shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck and hope your successful

Hi Joe I just wanted to wish you good luck and you shouldn't be discriminated aginst, but it can happen. Saying that, you sound very well suited for the vacancy and I hope the interview goes well and you are successful. Try and be positive when talking about diabetes and about how good your control is etc.

All the best RRB

Just thought I'd let you know that the interview went really well. I had to fill in a questionnaire saying will anything restrict your job doing lifting, moving, walking all of which I could tick no to apart from the last one which mentioned do you have a condition which may impair your driving (eg: diabetes) so I had to tick yes, though told them that before I ticked it I have diabetes, very well controlled and never caused a problem, dvla know i'm safe to drive so safety isn't an issue.
Will let you know if I get the job - if any of you would be curious :)

Joe :) x

Hi that's really good news, sounds so positive. I wish you all the best.

RRB :)

Keeping my fingers crossed for you and wish you all the best

Had a driving assessment and thought I did quite well on Friday. Unfortunately I just received an email saying I didn't get the job - with no feedback - and to please not ask for feedback due to high application numbers.

It's unfortunate but given my lack of van driving experience - there may have been people better qualified for the job.

Thank you for all your kind messages though :)

Hi, Joeyt74 :)

Sorry about that disappointing news.

I would reply to them and ask if you could be considered to be placed on a reserve list.

Roy, :)

Unlucky Joey ! Stay positive and don't give up ! It's very rare these days to get the first job you apply for.

That's a shame Joey, keep applying and stay positive :)
