Depression

Hi, Tuddy,

I'm not going to really answer your question specifically because you take or going to take insulin.
What I am aware of that low blood glucose levels and levels that fluctuate up and down do cause symptoms that affect the brain.
I had terrible anxiety and felt as though I had depression, amongst other symptomatic problems.
You will find that once your blood glucose levels are near normal levels more often that these symptoms lessen and you feel good.
However, you still could get depression which is not related to diabetes.

Hi Tuddy, welcome to the forum I'll tag @daisy1 who'll be along shortly with some really good information for you. Meanwhile, I'd like to second what Nosher said about feeling much better once blood levels are at lower levels. I hope that you'll feel better very soon.
 
I've recently done a lot of reading about different insulins and their profiles etc., but I've not read anything that suggests insulin in itself can cause depression as a side effect. In fact, other than potentially allergic reactions at injection sites and the potential to cause hypos, there is very little in the way of side effects from insulin, much less so that other diabetes meds.

I think, as nosher said, a lot of aspects of diabetes itself can cause depression and difficulties coping, but I don't believe that any particular brand/variant of insulin, in itself, can cause it.

This is perhaps a conversation you need to have with your diabetes care team.

Do you mean that you were not depressed until you started using insulin?
Your profile says that you are a Type1 and you posted this in the Type2 on insulin?
