DESMOND programme

I have not been offered this yet .. I hope they don't as I really don't want to go. My bs are under control and I am proactive in my approach to my T2.. I don't like group meetings .. I find them stressful .. Would you know if you HAVE TO attend ?

Im attending a 'living with diabetes' structured education programme. I attended a half day last week on 'what is diabetes' and I have a half day this week on 'carbohydrate awareness' which should be interesting. I was diagnosed 5 months ago and with the help of this site have levels under control with low carbing.

I decided to go and it was ok. She did explain that carbs were an issue, not just sugar and although refused to go down a definite very low/no carb route did discuss reducing carb levels. I didnt agree with everything she said but it was better than I expected. Intrigued about what this wed will bring! Will report back after if you want?

I would say there is nothing to lose by going but dont let them sway you from whats working for you.

It is difficult for them. I was amazed that two people present had had type 2 for 5 and 7 years respectively and yet had no clue as to what foods to avoid. In a discussion about veg where the tutor was saying you could eat any veg, I queried that root veg were higher carb and she was like, doesnt matter any veg is ok. I didnt agree at the time but thinking about it afterwards for people who havent bothered to learn, she is right, any veg is better than none, and better than potaties, pasta rice etc.

sorry for waffling on

l have done desmond and in my area it did not go well.
Parrots could have done a better job than the idiots doing it. They had done it for around a yr meant to be qualified human nurses that worked on the diabetes ward at the local hospital...given the local hospital that is enough to scare one.
They couldn't function without their crib sheets.
They refused to discuss anything outside of their crib sheets
They didn't tell a person with regular 11+ bloods 2hrs post meal to see their nurse..it is ok cause the bloods go down!!!
They told others with tingling it was ok to eat carbs and continue to drink and enjoy themselves
They pushed that obesity is the CAUSE of T2 (that was a hell of an argument as l made sure they didn't label me with that...l won)
They did not understand how basic digestion works..l explained it to them (went down well as so called qualified nurses being humiliated in public)
And much more than the above for 6hrs

As l am fairly outspoken it was like red rag to a bull... they thought l was the antichrist due to lchf and my attitude.
l knew they were total cretins and unfit for purpose...
Others have had good results from their courses l did not.

I turned down the offer of the course as I would find it too stressful too. It isn't compulsory. You seem to be doing well without it.
