Hi!

I replaced my dexcom r G6 today and can’t help but notice that the needle appears a bit shorter than normal ?
Im wandering if anyone js able to attach a photo of the needle of their G6 sensor once changed so I can compare - and also - is it possible to break off under the skin!?

Any advice greatly appreciated ! Thanks :)

Mine won't be removed for a while. But there are a couple of people that have had a cannula break off when they removed it. I always look for it now. But I have only ever heard of the whole cannula breaking off from the sensor a couple of times, not a partial piece? Doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

I use Dexcom G6. I am not sure if you are talking about the insertion needle or the filament that stays under the skin for the ten days?
However, In the extremely unlikely event that a bit of the filament is left under the skin when you remove G6, do not worry.

My justification is that when I was new to Tandem pump, I forgot to remove the needle guard from AutoSoft 90 cannula and inserted it with a cannula. I was worried enough to wait for six hours at A&E, where a sensible consultant pointed out that plastic would not show in a scan and it will do no harm to leave it in, and that it would eventually make its way to the surface of the skin. He reminded me that there are people who live a normal life for decades after they have shrapnel in their bodies.

However, I will have a look at my G6 when I need to replace it.

I just pulled my old sensor out of the caresens pro container I've been using as a holiday sharps bin. Warning, it's a bit yucky

I'd concur with the advice so far. I have never looked at the filament going in because when I insert mine I remove the sticker and hold it close to the skin before pressing the button down. Occasionally it feels a little bruised when I hit a fat lump I think.
Anyway it is sterile and a small filament but you could ask Dexcom if you are concerned.
Or did you mean a pump insertion canula? I know these come in varying sizes and materials so wondered if you've been sent a different size or steel one? This might feel different and unlike the G6 you can see it.
Mine isn't due for a change yet though I only remember when it starts doing weird LO readings (not true lows) at the end of its life!
