i have a Dexcom G4 metre,
currently order replacement sensors, transmitters etc from Advanced Therapeutics in the UK.

However for the summer months (end March to Oct) I live on a boat in the South of France Mediterranean.
we are seldom stopped in any one port for more than a week, it will be almost impossible to order seniors mail order from the UK

Does anyone have any knowledge of Dexcom sensor ordering procedures and likely costs in France.
I think the French have very strict rules where almost everything medical has to be supplied through the Pharmacies,
which would be ideal if I could just walk into a Pharmacies and place an order? Or like the UK is it mail order from the French distributer only?

How many are you using a month - for me I'd get a box to last 3-4 months so two boxes of sensors would be fine and I'd take them with me.

I get my supplies from the French Dexcom distributor called Novalab France. They have good prices and very fast service with next day delivery. Their web site is currently down but according to Google their phone number is 01 46 55 29 29. Their email address is: [email protected] I normally order via email and pay via bank transfer.

Best regards
Steen, Dexcom G4 user living in France.

Hi thank you all for your replies.
I have now been in contact with Novolab in france. (The person I got hold of spoke very good English)

Their supply arrangements are the same as AdvanceTheraputics in the UK in that they are only supplied via mail order.
Not an ideal situation for someone living on a constantly moving boat with no secure address for them to be delivered to.
It's a shame that sensors cannot be sourced through chemists.

I'm currently getting close to three weeks use out of each sensor,
but expect that to be a lot less once I am in the hot, sandy, sea swimming, sweaty environment of the Med.
I have resigned myself to trying to take sufficient supplies with me to cover all of summer.

Hi, Appreciate this is an older post, but does anyone know how much the receivers, transmitters and sensors are from France (www.dinnosante.fr) or any other French company, and/or any other companies outside the UK. I am trying to self-fund and am quite frustrated that so far I have found that most of Europe are cheaper than Advanced Therapeutics in the UK, but it appears each company is only allowed or willing to ship within their own country.

Thanks in advance, Paul

Thinking about it, I think it's illegal to put a trade restriction like that in place under EU law.

May be medical devices are excluded from the eu free trade circulation agreement. I too would be intrested in the cost of a cgm in France. Do you need approval from a medical professional such as a gp or consultant to purchase?

I will be looking into France and Spanish prices in the near future.
I would like to move from G4 to G5 but the current AT prices look out of this world and are beyond anything I could afford (I'm a pensioner) however as I spend most of my year living on a boat in the Med, I purchased an extra G4 transmitter just before the 6months was up on the first one in expectation it's battery would fail while I was away. The old transmitter now a year old is still working so I've yet to activate the new one yet. I will stick with G4 while I still have a functioning transmitter.

Hopefully before too long, like has now happened in the USA Dexcom has moved over from providing the sensors by mail order to now supplying them through large Chemist chains. I'm rather hopefully the same thing will happen in Europe.

Here is the response I got from Dinno Sante , I converted the price to pounds using the french VAT ( TVA) @5.5 % and an exchange rate of 1.38 .

I believe the prices in France are considerably lower, even if you allow for the current strong pound. So, currently sensors in the uk are £260 a box while in France £213, a discount of 18% !

Référence..Désignation........................................Qté.....Prix unitaire...... Montant HT.......TVA...........£
O1108........BTE 4 CAPT DEXCOM G4...................1......280,00 ............280,00.................5,5%..........213.00
O1106........TRANS DEXCOMG4 PLATINIUM.........1......350,00.............350,00.................5,5%.........266.30
O1109........KIT CPLT DEXCOM G4 PLATINUM.....1.......495,00.............495,00.................5,5%........376.00

Montant HT = Price outside of tax
TVA = VAT
KIT CPLT DEXCOM G4 PLATINUM = receiver , adapter, charger , software and a carrying bag.

They do not charge for delivery separately.

The G5 is not yet available in FRANCE.

The pharmaceutical sector in France is heavily regulated you cannot buy even an aspirin from a supermarket in France so this probably explains why Dinno Sante cannot export to the UK.

Like the UK CGMs are usually privately funded.

Can't see this happening in the UK as AT have the sole rights to dexcom in the UK, unless an animas vibe user.

Say what? I literally called them yesterday and had three mail orders setup (I'm in the US).

Hi everyone!

Could someone confirm me that there is no way to get partially refunded from French insurance for the Dexcom?

I don't really get it, Dinnosante once told me that there could be a way if the case is reviewed by special commission.. But I don't really have much info about it.

Thanks,
Sébastien
