What is the normal blood pressure for a diabetic?

I'm a 20 year old and my systolic is between 140 and 150. I know for a normal person blood pressure should be between 90 / 120. My diolostic is 79/80.

As said in another forum my bood sugar control is very poor, so I'm persuming my BP is higher for that reason?

Not sure.....could be. When my control was bad (HbA1C of 9) I also had high chloresterol, and that was put down to the high blood sugar..so it could be linked. It could also be the usual things that cause high BP, excess weight, stress etc

A Diabetic is urged to get BP levels below 130/80.

Lower has to be better, especially if you have other risk factors, it isn't all just about Diabetes and Bg levels. There are many variables to consider. Doesn't matter how good your Diabetes control is.....you can still have high blood pressure.

I'm 62. My BP levels are consistently around 110/70........

Here is a link to the Blood Pressure Asociation website, there are some tips for lowering blood pressure.

Diabetes and high blood pressure
About 25% of people with Type 1 diabetes and 80% of people with Type 2 diabetes have high blood pressure.

Having diabetes raises your risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and other health problems. Having high blood pressure also raises this risk. If you have diabetes and high blood pressure together, this raises your risk of health problems even more.

Thanks for that cugila,
I shall have a look now.

I was told by my diabetes consultant that bp in people with diabetes should be ideally below 130/70 for optimum health, read the article that Ken (Cugila) or alternatively speak with your gp on ways to reduce your bp.
