Hi All I am new to the forum but thought it would be a good place to discuss my issues, I am a 45 yo Male and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2007, since then I have had major issues with getting my blood sugars under control even though I do everything the professionals tell me, I am due to see my consultant soon and am having a blood test to see if have slow onset type 1 or if I am actually type 2. I have been out of work since March 2016 due to poor health, which was caused mainly by suffering with severe diabetic neuropathy, I Have been suffering with ED since June of last year and have tried Cialis and Sildenafil and both have not really worked for me, I have just been prescribed Tadalafil which is another type of Cialis but as yet have not tried them as I am really struggling mentally with my ED and worry that if I try them and they don't work then I'm back to square one, I have been married for 24 years and this had put a real strain on our relationship mostly due to my thoughts and struggling with the feeling of letting my wife down when ever we engage in any sexual activity and me not being able to perform. My wife has been incredibly understanding throughout the whole thing but this doesn't change my fears and feelings of inadequacy. I just wondered if anyone had any helpful advice or info that could help

Hi and welcome @DazB
If you type "erectile dysfunction" into the search box at the top of the page you'll find there are quite a few previous threads about it. It might be that high blood sugars play a part in causing it.
May I ask if any of your diabetes professionals have recommended a low carb diet?
Quite a few of us manage to control our condition following that way of eating and find there are a lot of other health benefits too. Personally my blood pressure has dropped from borderline needing medication to "normal" levels as well as loosing quite a chink of weight while eating this way. It may be that would help you too.

Hi BulkBiker thanks for the advice, my Diabetic nurse mentioned it a while ago but nothing progressed from there as she was supposed to be giving me some information but she left the practice and now because I am seeing a consultant again the Diabetic nurse wont see me again until I have met with my consultant. I have not seen my consultant for over a year as there was a mix up in communication and they said that I had not attended my appointment on 2 occasions but I had not received a letter, they have now acknowledged that it was their mistake so I am now waiting on my appointment. I have been browsing the Diabetes UK website and see that there is a lot of information and support from members in the successful use of the low carb diet so I will definitely be looking into this more thoroughly. Thanks again for the reply and information.

I'm guessing you mean this site diabetes.co.uk the other one "diabetes.org.uk" is a bit mealy mouthed about low carbing and diet control in general and has until very recently pushed the "starchy carb with every meal" mantra that got quite a lot of us into this situation to start with!.
I hav found I get great blood sugar control by cutting almost all carbs out of my diet.. it has made me lighter, healthier too so if your ED is connected to high blood sugar levels then it could well help with that too. I can't promise but it has done wonders for me.

@DazB You say that Sildenafil hasn't worked for you. I write as an observer on this matter and recall that it does take a few times to get it to work (there's brain things going on as well as the pure physical), dose is important (you may initially need the maximum), it's not instant (allow at least 45 minutes) and, if you have eaten a large or fatty meal it may get lost in the system one way or another.
Perhaps you have tried all this, but if not, give it another go, or several other goes.

Hi Bulkbiker

Yes I am referring to this site as I found the other of not much use to be honest, and to be honest I'm willing to try anything.

Hi Sally (& James)

I have been on sildenafil for quite a long time now but do not seem to have much success, I have now been prescribed Tadalafil so will see how that goes but I have also still got a few sildenafil so will look into your suggestions and maybe see if I have more success by taking note of your suggestions. Thank you :)

You may find everything is connected. High blood sugars- neuropathy- ED. Try a low carb diet along with regular testing with a meter to get your blood sugar under control. Overtime this should help. My advise would be to hit this hard and straight away, be obsessed with keeping carbs out of your diet for a while. Find some breakfast lunch and dinners that don't spike your BS and stick with these for at least a month, you've got nothing to lose.
