Hi, have found out i have the D word and was wanting to know if (A) cream cakes will ever come into my life again?
(B) are snickers good for you?
(C) brown pasta, what's that all about?
(D) any advice on tender feet?

Hope you can help in this small matter.

regards Derek.
PS.. can anyone come up with a better way to photography my eyes, other than stinging the hell out of them?

Hi Derek,

Welcome to the club that nobody wants to join! Are you a type 1 or a type 2?

In reply to your questions

(A) cream cakes will ever come into my life again?
Possibly but they will be few and far between! Everything in moderation really and you should wait till you've got your blood sugars under control

(B) are snickers good for you?
Only if you're Hypoglyceamic

(C) brown pasta, what's that all about?
It's just wholeweat, slightly gentler on your bloosd sugars than 'white' pasta

(D) any advice on tender feet?
See a podiatrist, you're entitled to free treatment as you're diabetic

Some opticians have the facility to take a photo of your eye to check for retinopathy, you might have to pay though (I pay £5) but it's totally painless and you can drive home after without having to wait for the drops to wear off!

Re cream cakes rule is lotsa cream not much cake or non at all

Hi Dollyrocker, am type2 and only found out about it 3/4 months ago so am very new to the no sugar type deal.

Regards Derek.

I left them out for around 12 months apart from one as a special treat. They are still a treat but never on a regular basis. You have to have some pleasures.......

(B) are snickers good for you ?
They are full of carbs (52.9g per 100g)and fat (28.1g per 100g) so not really.......they can be useful after you have treated a hypo to help stabilise the levels once they are back to more normal levels. Not fast acting so not really a good thing to treat a hypo with in the first instance as the fat slows down the absorption so it takes longer to raise the levels.

(C) brown pasta, what's that all about?
Still has starchy carbs so not advisable in large portions. I can manage VERY small portions without too much hassle.
(D) any advice on tender feet?

See a Podiatrist for advice as this can be down to many things, some not Diabetes related.

Sweet teeth is partly an addiction - I am a recovering chocoholic. Once you get through th first difficult weeks you stop wanting them in the same way. Honestly.

As I have just said on the 'are you in mourning' threa', what I really crave these days is a big crusty crust thickened in real butter, chocalate and cakes are less of an issue.

Oh god yes, I had the most hideous headaches after Iwas diaagnosed as T1 and went cold turkey on the chocolate!

Hi all, did have a sweet tooth for all, cakes, choc, lager, choc covered peanuts and lager, have cut back on most of this but am still finding it hard on a night time not to pick,
Can only hope they come up with a cure very soon or i will have to start on boots non sugar chocolate???

Regards Derek.

Best reserve the toilet for the day you are going to eat this chocolate, and warn the family to keep away from the loo for the following 48 hours!

Try dark 85% or over chocolate.

It's an acquired taste but it will not have the OMG effect that the so called diabetic chocs have !
