Diabetes and Job applications

I live in the UK, and have recently been made redundant. Am currently completing job applications and a lot of the online application forms ask the question "are you disabled" to which I have always said no. However the question now includes ... "Are you disabled (including any unseen disabilities, such as dyslexia, diabetes, etc). I don't think diabetes is a disability and it really annoys me. Am I right to be annoyed or does anyone think it is justifiable to ask this?

Thanks

I sort of agree that diabetes isn't a disability. I would just say that you have diabetes but that it doesn't affect your work in any way which it shouldn't as such.

They are asking the question because it gives you automatic right to an interview. So just say you have diabetes but you do not consider yourself disabled and diabetes does not affect your ability to work.

This is all due to the changes to the discrimination at work clauses of the equality act. Essentially, if they can fill a spot with an 'unseen disability' it allows disabled allocations to be met with little change required by the employer.
