Hi everyone! I’ve been T1 for 17 years but have found recently that I’m just not caring as much as I used to. I’m taking tresiba and novarapid but I’ve lost all interest. I’ve noticed I spike around 3am every morning and have brought it to my endo but I’m not getting much help. I work shift and that can make it a bit harder for me too. I just feel at a loss and I want to give up on this.

Hi @leigh363 Is there anything else going on in your life which would impact on your current way of thinking ? How are your BG levels in general ?

Can you call up your DSN and arrange a get together to go through things with them instead ?

Just try take it one day at a time, there are no easy answers but try talking it through with someone and go easy on yourself.

Hi @Juicyj
There’s a fair amount of stress in my life at the moment and I just feel a bit lost with it. I’ve tried connecting with my DNS but I’ve just been told I’m not trying hard enough and to just “buck up and get on with it”. I’m no stranger to stress but this feels heavier for some reason. I’ve recently joined a gym in a bid to try reduce my weight and insulin intake. I’m trying to work with a PT and a nutritionist but I’m not getting very far.

Hi @leigh363 Being told to 'buck up and get on with it' is really unhelpful, and really insensitive, particularly when you've had type 1 for 17 years, you need support. When things get a bit much for me I put my trainers on and go for a run, or even just a walk in the fresh air, just getting outdoors will help. Stress is a pain but it will be the root cause of your current way of thinking so anything you can do to relieve the stress your under will help your mental well being. Can you do anything to limit the stress in your life ?

Unfortunately my job is fairly stressful so short of finding a new job that’s not exactly an option at the moment. I’ve been going for a run or just going out to public areas to read so I’m not sitting in my own and overthinking. But I’m just at my wits end. I also think I need to find a new endo and dns to help me with my treatment. Last time I sat in the hospital for 4 hours and got less than 5 mins with both. I feel like you can’t do anything with those 5 mins regarding treatments or anything. I really appreciate you getting back to me. Thank you

Big hug, I know how it feels when you're at your wits end, can you see your GP and discuss this with them and see if any other options are available to you ? It's vital you feel supported, I know they can only do so much but even having someone sympathetic to talk to will help lighten the mental strain and if there's anything they can do which will at least help you cope better, sadly when it's all a bit too much you need to really reach out for help, it's never forth coming. Good to hear you're running, it's a good way of keeping your BG levels under control and staying sane, happy to chat too if it helps :)

Keep talking to us here. Lots of people here recognise the burn out feeling - the good news is that you are testing and injecting.
Does the early morning spike follow a low or are you eating close to it when on shift?
