- Some of the "candidates" in the Apprentice - I would never have employed some of the nasty individuals that pop up as potential employees in this show. If they are the best on offer then heaven help us!
Mine is heading towards excellent. Started badly at the hospital. My GP was great and let me try diet and in 3 months I fell from 14.7 to 9.6 - then I went to hospital! The Consultant had a "couldn't care less" attitude and handed me a prescription for Metformin and told me to take 2 a day. He didn't appreciate me questioning this and asking why I wasn't being allowed to persist with diet. Also asked about side affects and he told me there were none - so I asked him about lactic acidosis...... at which point I was told everyone is given Metformin so just take it and do as you are told. I promptly went back to my GP who was disgusted, answered all my questions and is always available. I now attend the diabetes clinic at my GPs as they understand my other problems from the spinal injury. I am fortunate that my GP gives me a prescription for testing strips any time I want them. They also know that I will not just accept taking another pill and they take the time to discuss things with me and look at options. My recent problems, it was my GP who spotted straight away I was depressed and put me onto monthly blood tests and 6 weekly meetings with him to check my progress and "chat" (because he knows I won't accept another pill for depression). Only reason I didn't go for "excellent" at this stage for my GP is no one spoke to me about lo carb and this seems to be the solution to my problem. My diet did have high, starchy carbs in it and I just didn't realise this could be responsible for my BG creeping up again. I'll be seeing my GP in 4 weeks and I'll be telling him then about my diet change and I am sure we will have a good discussion about it (especially the way my figures are going at the moment!).
