Type 1 diabetes coma

i have just left hospital after 48 hours of hell i had high blood sugars due to a mouth infection of 550grams with ketones; i was then treated with insulin therpary ect, then i believe i went into a hypo coming around on a trolly on oxyen with ten ot more people around me holding me dpwn my clothes were soaking wet and i was covered in blood and very confused and still feeling very strange my blood sugar was at this point 0.02 was i in a coma i remember nothing could i have died; sorry for all the spelling
mistakes i just cant think straight, thankyou;

I am of no use to you I'm afraid but you're still with us is the good news.
Put your feet up for a couple of days if life will allow.
 
Spoil yourself.
Get someone else to spoil you.

Wow ! That's awful!:eek: How on earth did that happen on supposedly monitored insulin therapy ?

What an awful time you've had, hope the mouth infection clears up soon and you can put the last few days behind you.

I'm so sorry to hear of your scary experience. Do you know where the blood came from as you said you were covered in it:eek:? Has a medical professional spoken to you about what happened, I know it must be all very hazy and frightening right now.

I wish you a speedy and healthy recovery, take good care.

If you don't mind me saying so, I just checked out your profile & you have a fair list of medication most of which I had to Google.
You say you were in hospital for 48 hours. Was any of the medication on your list withdrawn from you during this time? If this is the case..?

Though I'd say you had an extreme hypo.. I would also say that some of the other drugs you take if stopped abruptly during your hospital admittance due to their nature could cause "withdrawal" symptoms too.. Some of these symptoms not unlike a hypo..

Though I'm no doctor, if the aforementioned is the case? You went "cold turkey" as well as hypo...!

Sorry about your experience.

Hi and thank you for your reply, but no the doctors did nt change any meds, i have very brittle diabetes and use a inuslin pump to try and control the consent battle of highs and lows every day, i also have many complications due to my diabetes the list is endless, still feeling really unwell and unable to function, my head is really fuzzy and i am having loads of hypos and hypers, 40plus and 2s/3s just dont know what to do?
 
How long have you been using the pump??

Sorry, I'm not a pumper.. Just a basic old school basal/bolus injector...

You need to talk to experienced pump users to get the levels under control..!

Keep constantly monitoring blood levels. Keep records in a diary along with what you eat.. This will help your doctor too..!

but sadly i am already doing all that, i have a great little tester machine that bluetooths or something bit of a techno phobe! my readings directly to my pump, then i calculate the number of carbs i have eaten and it then works out just how much insulin to give me, it a great system but sadly its not making a dam bit of difference just feel like given up this constant battle am just so tired!

If it's any consolation I'm about the same age as yourself.. Don't give up just when life gets interesting...! :D
 
i have been battling now for 17 LONG YEARS no just got to keep going for my girls sake just very very tired out at the mo and still feel really odd dont know if i should phone the doc, but to be honcest they are never much help, better of talking to everyone on here its great wish i had found this forum years ago maybe would nt be in the mess am in now never mind i found you now :p
 
Recording everything in a log book can really help, the pump can only work out how much to give you based on what the settings are, do you adjust these (like the carb ratio or basal rates) yourself or do they do them for you at clinic? If you have everything logged in a book you may be able to see where adjustments are needed, and either work them out yourself or let your team see where they need to be made.

I used to have huge swings and really struggled with it, but logging really does help to get the settings right and I am finally bringing my a1c down (it peaked at around 14 last year, but last week was down to 7.6)

thanks for your advice, i used to record everything and the docs used to change my basal rate, but i do it myself now, and with this new system i dont need to write things down now its great, the tester machine has a u s b that i put into the computer and it makes a graph of everthing i can print it out and look at everything its really good, but its not making much difference already today have had blood sugars of 487mmol 214mmol: 0.61: 104: 0.79 210: 0.50 0.70mmol right now it is 140 which is good but i feel really odd like i am really drunk i am slurring my words and unable to concentrate just typing this is a major task its horrible think i should maybe phone the doctors just not sure what do you think?:rolleyes:

Thankyou so much its so good to know there is people out there who care and understand, think if feeling no better soon its back to hospital for me, think theres something just not right:(

sorry i have got mixed up as i have lost my conversion table it should say mg/dl just not with it at all:oops:
