diabetes during pregnancy

What type of diabetes happens during pregnancy? Like the question states, what type of diabetes happens during pregnancy. More importantly, why does the head of most babies are usually abnormally large after such a pregnancy?
 
I had gestational diabetes with my first child I don't remember what type and by the time I had my second child I'd been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes but neither of my children had abnormally large heads!
 
It's not the head that gets large it is the body if blood sugars are high, I was told I would be able to deliver the head if I had natural birth but due to the large weight her shoulders would get stuck
