We have a 11 year old Siberian Husky.He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 5 weeks ago.We have been checking his blood levels as well as doing a curve .His readings are 27 to 31 and after the first curve his insulin was increased to 17,5 iu and the blood levels have not decreased after 10 days on new dose.How long does it normally take to decrease the blood levels to a acceptable level and what is considered normal Thanks.

In dogs as welll as in humans, the sensible approach is to reduce bloood sugars gradually, as extreme control can result in heart attacks, strokes etc. So don't despair if the change is slow - your vet is probably being sensible.
Let us know how you get on.. treatment in anaimals may give some ideas about treatment in humans as well as vice versa (e.g the human model for 'laminitis' in horses is diabetes and yet laminitis in horses is often much better controlled than diabetes in humans!)

Dogs apparently always have T1, cats on the other hand get T2. Where in the country are you? Are you pleased wih your veterinary care? My brother has the Veterinary Centre in Carshalton in Surrey and has a lot of success with canine diabetics. I asked him about it a long time ago. Non of my dogs has ever had it, but with both of us( T1 Husband and me), I was curious as to how dogs cope.
