Hi All , I was diagnosed type 2 about 2 yrs ago ,ans have manged to keep my blood sugar readings to less than 7 average is @ 5-6.5 mmol .However recently am getting severe thirst and the need to urinate ,and some nights i can be up 2-3 times for a drink and a pee.Now i know i could be barking up the wrong tree ,but has anybody had the same symptoms and later been diagnosed for Diabetes Insipidus?.Or are my symptoms typical of type 2?.

Hi harveysandhu

I was diagnosed T2 Nov 09, I dont get the thirst as often as I did these days but I do have to get up quite a few times during the night to pee, especially just after I have gotten into bed, I have been putting it down to the amount of tea I drink though.

Are you testing regularly through the day? This sounds like high blood sugars are causing this?

sugarless sue , i test 2-3 times a day , after breakfast after lunch and last around 8-9 at night .Should i be testing more often? .if so when are the best times to test.

Best is to test just before eating then two hours after you finished that meal. This shows you how much your meal has affected your blood sugars. Maybe you should test just before going to bed to see if it is high then.

What sort of things do you eat ? Maybe there will be a clue there.

Sugarless, Generally i have a mixed diet consisting 60% protein ( eggs cheese, chicken, ham,Red meat ,fish) 20% veg and the rest is wholemeal bread, pitta bread and the odd homemade brownies ,cupcakes (1 a day ,the missus bakes em ,yummy) .I do go out for a beer on a fri night where i will have 6-7 pints of stella and a bag of peanuts(ok and a 3 pints on a wed). I go to the gym 2-3 times a week and am in good shape,so i don'nt think i abuse my body. Also i always get the urge to have a hot/choclate drink made from milk/water 50% before bed with 2-3 rich tea. There you go ,thats my bad habits what do you think ?

7 pints of Stella = 115.30 gm of carbs!!!   16.47gm per pint. That's just a start!!

Sugarless, i know it sounds bad,but its only once a week, and the rest of my diet does'nt sound too bad? .Maybe i should get onto the whisky&water On a serious note do i need to rethink my diet and stick to a low carb diet where i actually weight my Carbs.

It might only be once a week.....however it is not good.

115g carbs is more than I would eat in a day. My daily carb count varies between 70 - 100 g only. That is probably a lot more than most low carbers would eat !

As for the rest of your diet, there are a lot of carbs there. Here is the info we give to newbies, have a read and sort out what applies to you and is good for you.

Cugila, Thanks for the advice.I must confess i do feel better on days when i have largely protein based food.On the issue of alchohol,i must confess i have not had guiness for a long time ,does it agreee with you and what are the carbs in a pint of the black stuff

Guinness, my favourite tipple.....was.....

Due to another unrelated condition I have had to stop drinking totally for now. It contains around 18g carbs per pint.

Now my Friday session was two pints and a few small sandwiches. Now I found that I could tolerate that without much if any rise in my Bg levels. There are others on here who have also found this to be the case. I think I converted them......

However, if you want to try it you MUST test before and after......we are all different in how we react to things. I used to drink it in half pints, made it last and kept me in a round. They had 4, I had 2.......simple. Everything in moderation is what I live by now.

OK .So it would seem that i am going to cut my stella down to 3 pints and look at introducing VODKA to my drinks menu. It is true that vodka has no carbs?
