I would ring the surgery and ask for a gp to ring you, so that you can discuss this in more detail, and ask him/her for a referral to the hospital. You might have to stand your ground, with the receptionist, but as others have said, I would have though you need specialist advice. If you can't get past the receptionist, write a letter personally addressed to the gp you normally see, with a copy to the practice manager.
