Hi Fellow Diabetics,

Anyone has both type 1 and Psoriasis as well?

Do you notice that the psoriasis itching increases when blood sugar is rapidly going low (approaching hypo), or going rapidly high?

Would be great to hear from anyone that has both Psoriasis & Diabetes.

Take care all,
Ak

At the risk of cross posting because I’m T2 diet controlled, but have had psoriasis since I was 18 (62 now) I also have PCOS, I’m of the opinion that they are all linked. When my BS were high before getting my T2 diagnosis my psoriasis was unbearable, the only place I didn’t have it was my face, it actually became pustular psoriasis at one point, I also have arthritic psoriasis.

Now my BS are under control I still have little patches here & there but it’s improved massively, as has the arthritic psoriasis but that can still be painful at times, but yes if I do go a bit high which isn’t often now it does itch, I’ve also found that dairy makes it worse, so even though I do keto I try to keep my dairy to a minimum, I also gain weight with dairy (which is how I realised dairy was irritating my psoriasis when I cut down in dairy for weight loss)

Lovinglife, many hanks for responding.

To be fair, I don't know if I posted this in the correct place - I would have thought more of us had both Diabetes & Psoriasis since they are both autoimmune illnesses; definitely both are linked.

Myself I am type 1 since 40 years ago (44 now); and Psoriasis started from 15 years or so. Recently also arthritic psoriasis; improves somewhat in summertime.

Have you taken any medication for the Pso or do you control it purely by diet? Myself am over 50% covered (luckily no face) - and am running out of areas to inject for my insulin !!

Have indeed heard that dairy, gluten, and nightshades may impact the level of pso but being T1 diabetic, there is only so much I can remove from my diet!

Thanks for reading,
Afarra

Spicy food which is too hot. Nasty people who have no idea on your life journey but feel the need to comment and be cruel.
Yes I have Psoriasis. Developed it during Covid and after my Diabetes diagnosis. Was prediabetic before.
Find I am worse for the hot weather but at the moment not hot and still giving me a bit of grief.
I use other items as the stuff the hospital give me has too much Petro in for my liking.
I have also had eczema since 5years old. Did ditch Dairy with was no help. As for Belladonna plants, difficult as I like too many tomatoes.;)

I don’t take anything now and I avoid the steroid creams if I can, I think it’s mainly diet as in not much dairy and very low carb. Like anyone who has lost an enormous amount of weight (over 11st) I have loose bits lol - I had a break out around Christmas under my tummy (I blame the extra dairy with more cheese & cream) and it was really sore & itchy, the only thing I had in the house was sudocrem (sp?) and I used that in the morning & evening really at first just to deal with the itch - I then noticed after about a week it was clearing up & another week or so it was gone! Maybe give that a try?

I haven’t had anything from the dr for years but there are a lot more treatment’s available these days, the last time I had any prescribed treatment was in my 20s - I did spend the most boring 6 weeks of my life in hospital have intense treatment, creams, tar baths, sun bed, and medication when very first diagnosed but not sure if they still do that.

Maybe speak to your GP to see if there’s anything they can do? People don’t realise how debilitating psoriasis can be

My father has psoriasis and it was noticeably worse when he (or his body) was stressed. I remember him having nasty smelling tar baths when it got bad when I was a kid. But he has never changed his diet because of it. He was always self conscious about it on his torso and would avoid the swimming pool for that reason. He hasn't had a flare up since he retired.
Touch wood, I do not have it. However, as neither of my parents have diabetes, I wonder if there is some link due to both being autoimmune conditions.

I've got type 1 diabetes, psoriatic arthritis, and psoriasis (flare ups occasionally, but generally kept under control using Dermol 500 lotion for washing and applying afterwards as well) Occasional use of steroid cream etc.

I haven't noticed blood sugar levels rapidly increasing or decreasing affecting psoriasis.
