Hello this is my first post and i really need the help of someone who has knowledge with possible insuline reactions.

I try to make it as short as possible.

Background: I have massive insomnia of unknown origin. All standard procedures and docs have been tried an failed. Along with that insomnia another symptom is my tremendously weird and excessive reaction to all exogenous hormones, e.g. i can't take thyroid hormones despite hypothyroidism or VitD despite VitD deficiency. Other non hormonal substances work more or less normal.

Now to my question: The last doc (a sleep medic) thought it was a good idea to inject 12 units of long lasting insuline into me. It was his own theory that involves melatonine receptors in the pancreas. A glucose-tolerance test that was done beforehand showed a normal reaction after 1 hour and a slightly elevated blood glucose after 2 hours but no real diabetes signs. The only diabetic symptom i showed beforehand was a bit elevated thirst and easy weight gain.

Since this single injection i had massive hot flashes after eating sugar, headaches after eating in general, increases in thirst and urination, numb genitals and erectile dysfunction. These symptoms are still present now 5 months after to more or less extend and are not treated by any doc despite of me reaching out to several because nobody has an idea how an insuline reaction could have caused this.

Since i'm treating myself already more or less successfully for the insomnia (which doesn't have any effect on the diabetes symptoms and vice versa after the occuring of those symptoms my insomnia didn't change) i wonder if anybody has an idea which organic reaction exactly could have caused this so i have something to base my research on.

It's also important to note that any of those classic type 2 solutions like cinnamon, cloves, chromium, exercise or low carb doesn't improve it or actually tends to worsen it.

The only way to find out if the hot flushes and other symptoms are to do with glucose is to test. A finger prick tester can be cheap. If you test before eating and then 2 hours after you'll have a good idea of how your body is coping with it. I don't think it'll answer your main question but I think it could help understand how your body is dealing with sugar.
As to all the rest, I bet they could write a book on all your interesting hormone reactions! Hope you get some answers soon.

Hi @Dio2 and welcome to the forum. I don’t see how your current symptoms can be attributed to the single shot of long acting insulin. Long acting insulin does not last 5 months!
Your symptoms do sound like those you could get with diabetes but we can’t diagnose. I really think you should go back to your dr and request an HbA1c test which is the test to diagnose diabetes. In the meantime you could do as @mouseee suggests and invest in a blood sugar meter and do some testing before and after meals.

There are some rare autoimmune diseases that attack hormones. For example insulin autoimmune syndrome (IAS) for one, but this would come with numerous hypos. I am certainly not trying to diagnose and I have zero medical training. Nobody can diagnose on the forum as it's against forum rules. This really is down to your Dr to run tests or send you to an endocrinologist. 12 units of insulin is not going to give you diabetes. @mouseee 's suggestion of getting a glucometer to see where your blood sugars are at is a good one.
