There are always a lot of threads about Statins and Cholesterol and we all post our various favourite bits of current presentations about them but I thought it might be handy to have them all in one thread. I meant to put this together soon after the get together in Birmingham (sorry @Debandez)...
I believe statins helped contribute to my T2 diagnosis, but too many carbs were definitely the main cause. But eventually ditching the statins also helped further reduce my glucose levels.
I'm not too sure how much metformin helped me as I didn't have see any difference when I eventually stopped taking it. But I never had any of its often appalling gastric side effects either. I believe that some of us. e.g. @Rachox, still take it for other non-diabetic benefits.
Regarding BP, I've been on long term meds from years before I became diabetic. My low carb diet initially also helped reduce this, but I've had spells when it goes (sometimes much!) higher again, and AFAIK this is due to other causes, e.g. stress, rather than to my T2 glucose levels.
Essentially it comes down to discovering how we as individuals react to various treatments and medications as no one solution fits us all, and so we have to learn to tailor things to our own particular set of issues.
I am on a statin Atorvastatin. I don’t have high cholesterol. I was told it was a preventative measure when you are T2. I asked a few months ago if I could stop taking it and Dr told me no.
