Hi i was diagnosed in Nov 2015, i had trouble taking my metformin and now do this, but i've been put on insulin and have a fear of using it.

Hi @robert1620 ,

A warm welcome to the forum.

Could you please elaborate on the nature of your fear?
No doubt there will be plenty of other insulin users along shortly to help!

What are your blood sugar levels? What are you eating?

Metformin can help lower blood sugar levels, but not as much as eating a low carb diet. You need to get a blood glucose meter to test your sugar levels. Next you need to change your diet to cut out foods which spike your blood sugar, typically by cutting out or reducing breakfast cereals, bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc. Also stop drinking orange juice and other fruit juice.

Many people here have got their blood sugars down to normal levels within 6 months on the LCHF diet. This has meant that they can minimise the amount of mediation they need.

Hi thank you for your messages, I'm on 2 metformin in the morning and 2 in the evening, The insulin injection 1 in the morning and one in the evening. My glucose is average 14 but did go up to 28.2 on Sunday. I cant do the lchf diet as my cholesterol very high, im unsure about a diet plan never been told much about it. I do. As with my fear of medication i worry about taking any medication and side effects just anxious over it.

I have been eating according to Atkins and my cholesterol has gone down - but even if it had not, I fear the effects of high blood glucose far more than high cholesterol.
I would suggest that you analyse your food intake and see if there are good reasons for your high blood glucose readings - sugary foods and drinks, or bread and other cereal based foods which could all be discontinued and so reduce the impact of carbohydrates.

LCHF diet can lower cholesterol. It did for me. If you are type 2 with sugar levels of 14+ then you are doing serious damage to your body.

My suggestion is to forget about cholesterol, it is the least of your concerns. You must be eating a serious amount of carbs to spike your blood sugars to 28. You really need to do something about your diet asap.

Hi Robert, I low carb and medium fat. I limit my saturated fat and eat lots of oily fish, extra Virgin olive oil, nuts and avocados.
Doing this may alleviate your worries about the high fat part of low carbing.
