Hello,

I wonder if any of your guys and girls have any ideas or advice on please. I went for my usual 3 mile afternoon walk, long way round the block.

When I got back, I made a cup of tea, I suddenly felt very very shaky so quick sad down just in case I was about to end up in a heap on the floor. I immediately checked my blood sugars which were 5.5mmol.

Does anyone know why I get the shakes and what causes it? Also on other occassions I have felt very dopey at work when blood sugars have gone other way 11.6 or 13.8mmol.

Oh yeah, I just started on slow-release Metformin 500mg x2 tablets from 10 Jan 2014.

Sorry if it seems a stupid question, I have only been diagnosed Feb 2013.

What has just happened to you is a 'false hypo'. Your body is used to running at much higher levels and being 5.5 it thinks your blood sugar is too low and gives you hypo symptoms. These feelings will stop when you regularly get lower levels. There is no need to do anything. It is probably not a good idea to drive a car when you are feeling like this, but it will soon pass.
