Hi,

I am a Type-2 diabetic and have been for over 4years. I have been able to manage it well with medication, but for the last 6 months or so I have been struggling with my weight. I am considering Mounjaro injections privately to kick start my weight lose journey but I am a bit sceptical for 2 reasons. Firstly, can anyone recommend a website to purchase these as I am unsure what’s legitimate or not. And secondly how do you manage your current diabetes medication whilst taking Mounjaro in order not to have hypos? Does your GP support you going private and throughout your journey?

Hi @Stef9uk and welcome to the forum. Can I ask why you are going to try to get Mounjaro privately? Have you not asked your GP if he can prescribe it for you? I have read on this forum of someone trying to get a GLP 1 medication similar to Mounjaro, from a private source and they were refused because they were diabetic (sorry I can’t remember who it was). If you are worried about hypos which may be a concern if you are on other diabetes meds, in your position I would try to get everything prescribed by one person, and would like that to be my GP.

Hi Rach, thanks for your reply.
I firstly spoke to my GP regarding Mounjaro, who referred me to Endocrinology/Bariatrics but my appointment is not till 2026. He then mentioned going privately as many people are doing that.

My boss at work has been on the injections since Sept and has lost just over 3stone. She sent me the link to the online pharmacy she purchased hers from but because I am a diabetic it states I need to be referred by my GP. Other sites tend to do an assessment but then lead me to purchase the injections so freely, which makes me a bit worried.

It seems like my GP doesn’t want to refer me to an online pharmacy but I have to wait for my appointment, which seems so silly as it’s so far away.

Oh no that’s a long wait. I was lucky enough to get Victoza injections at my Diabetes review in spring ‘23, then switch to Rybelsus (semaglutide) tablets when Victoza became unavailable. They have worked well for me. I hope there’s a way for you to get want you want sooner. Let us know how you get on.
