Got a quick question. As you know I was diagnosed 28th Jan and have been following LCHF since. Hubbie very supportive and also ate LCHF. He lost 2 stone very quickly and within couple of months went from 13 st 6 to 11st 6. Bought choc fudge cake for kids and everyone had a small slice with double cream. We had meatballs and salad for tea. Normal Swedish ones which I buy from Sainsburys. Tested self 15 mins after eating and 8. Hubbie 12.2. 30 mins after eating I was 6.5. Hubbie 30 mins after 1st reading 19.5. One off? Fit ****** and can now fit into 30 inch waist jeans. Not tall - about 5ft 9. Bs 30 mins later 11.1

Did he eat a lot more of the cake than you?

I would try and repeat. Maybe tomorrow night, do the same thing. If elevated BG levels still, tell him to see his doc. Hope this was just a one off. Take care Mo

Thanks. He's now 30 mins later 8.6. His dad s prediabetic but hubbies always done loads of sport. Eaten lots of pasta, rice and bread. Am going to do fasting bs tomorrow.

It may be his pancreas just isn't handling the carbs and needs training up a little. An 8 mmol drop in 30 mins is a rapid fall so I reckon that is his pancreas finally kicking in to sort it out (I only ever see this rate with exercise)

the night of my dx when i was asking if this could all be a mistake etc etc, the doctor said if a non diabetic ate 5 doughnuts they wouldnt go above 11 on a finger prick, now every one knows how much faith i have in my doctors but thats what he said

Thanks. Gonna get him to test in 10 mins and do fasting bs tomorrow.

Does testing 15 minutes after eating give valuable information? Am I missing something?

Hope he is ok, Scandi x

Wanted to know what highest spike would be for self. Tested hubbie out of curiosity. His bs now 6.2 2 hours after eating. Hell of a spike though 12.2, 19.5. 11.1 , 8.6 then 6.2. Still think will do fasting bs.

My doc says that they need 2 fasting tests for a diagnosis in case one is a fluke. Good luck.

Perhaps, and remember i am clueless but perhaps.... where he has been low carbing, hes response to sugar has become kinda lazy

I'm equally clueless and I was thinking that too Andy! The fasting one is the most important one for hubby Scandi.

Looks like your hubby is diabetic and has benefited enormously from the LCHF diet.

At my OGTT I was 20.6 at one hour and 13.8 at two hours. Keep testing hubby. No one with remotely normal bg will test above 8 any time after a meal.

Det var det jag tänkte på! Även jag var bara 8 en kvart senare. Tänk att han nådde 19.5 en hav timme senare! Tack att du svarade. Jag visste inte om min fråga var otroligt dum eller? Jag bara blev orolig! Kram!

Hi scandichic, I show a programme with doctor Alice someone and she eats a carb load then tests her sugars. I'm sure she got a reading of 12 ish soon after. Can't remember the time interval though. It is normal for non- diabetics to gave a peak. The difference is how quickly it drops.
Also non- diabetics low carbing do seem to develop an insulin resistance due to not having to react to large 'normal' amounts of carbs.
But the 19 figure does stand out. Nothing wrong with monitoring him just for your own piece of mind. Hope he's just a lazy non- diabetic used to low carbing. Xx

A pre diabetic reading but doesn't really say much, My fbg at diagnosis rarely went up to 6 but still had a bad OGTT. Get him to your GP.
