Diabetes?

I think that is rather high too. I would suggest he comes off of lchf for a couple of weeks and you retest him and if he is high still better see the docs. Need to rule out the pancreas is just caught on the hop.

Thanks everyone. He's just gone down to sort out brekkie. He's going to make an appointment. Will take some time as I want him to see dr Mann. Think the other one will pooh pooh his readings and blame the diet. If he is diabetic/prediabetic then we need a diagnosis so that he doesn't do any further damage. It would be ironic if he were, bearing in mind how much sport he did in life right up until the birth of the children.

He will need to 'carb up' to 150g or more for at least 3 days before having an accurate OGTT, so please keep that in mind.

Definitely sounds like your hubby has some BG issues though.

OGTTs are, allegedly, no longer carried out in the UK for diagnostic purposes. It's fasting and HbA1c for "gold standard" these days, according to my practise.

Really hope it turns out OK and results come back negative. I wonder if eating very few carbs would give a false reading in a non diabetic ? Not sure, maybe someone else will know. As for his sporting past, unfortunately diabetes is not picky and anyone can get it. Anyway, I hope it's nothing, take care, Mo :-)

Thanks for all the replies guys! Don't know if he's made the appointment yet as he doesn't get in till 6:45. On the basis that he won't have got an appointment for tomorrow, is the consensus that he should have cereal for brekkie and pasta or chilli for tea and monitor for 3 days to give an accurate reading? Will test tonight pre and post prandial.

At least three days, but I think a week is even better. Depends on how low carb he is doing now of course.

We eat sausage and egg for brekkie, sometimes with tomatoes and or mushrooms. Snack cheese or nuts evening meal chicken or fish and veggies or salad. 2 squares of dark choccie. Sometimes meatballs or bean bake once or twice a week Puy lentils wilted spinach and fish or chicken. Twice a week I make ice cream with frozen berries and double cream. How low carb is that?
