Hi All
I've spent the last hour reading through some of the info on this site, amazed at all the support people are providing to fellow diabetics and I've learnt a few things already! For anyone who stumbles on this post and is struggling with their diabetes, please post a message, there will undoubtedly be a load of people on here who can give you support and guidance. Pat yourselves on the back...
Briefly, I've been very well controlled over the last 27 years. I'm a type 1, injecting mixtard twice a day. Long term tests are typically low to mid 6's. No complications.
However, I am expecting to be sent to New York for 2 years at the end of 2013 and I'm keen to know about the standard of diabetic care in the US? Whilst I've travelled extensively and worked on and off in the US, I've never lived there and so am unsure how medication is obtained, whether I can continue to get my particular type of insulin (though I believe it's pretty common), blood testing strips, how the health insurance operates (my company will pay for this) - basically anything anyone can share would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance. Gary
