Last night I went to a meeting of our CCG regarding health care in our area we have a new hospital being built minus beds I found we wont have a diabetic clinic there I asked why and was told my care will be solely in the hands of my GP if they need advice they would contact the consultant the only time I would see the consultant will be if I am admitted to hospital I feel we are being discriminated against I have signed up to be a virtual processor for diabetes and would be grateful for any advice you can give me thank you.

For those of us in London, the majority of local hospitals do not have a Diabetic and Endocrine department, and we are required to use those of other hospitals. As I understand it, for well controlled, balanced diabetics, especially T2s, the NHS preference is to have them handled by their GP.

For those of us who are T1 in London, we are referred to the clinics at one of the hospitals. There are three that I could have been referred to and I use the one nearest where I work. I believe that the same is true in other parts of the country.

I feel your pain, although you would be lucky to see a GP on diabetes matters at our surgery as you would be palmed off to the practice nurse who is too overworked to have done anything up to date in years, only parroting what has been passed down in memos!

Considering that Diabetes is now considered to be an epidemic I find it odd that treatment has been relegated to practice nurse level. (No disrespecting them you understand). Only one Diabetic Specialist Doctor -so called - in our practice and he doesn't like humans!
More education and training (for h/care professionals as well) and access to Xpert and Desmond in our area would be good-none at present.

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
The majority of T2's are dealt with by the GP practices.

Years ago T1's were admitted to a diabetic ward on diagnosis for 3-5 days approx. my hospital does not even do this.. The only diabetics that will be admitted to a ward are those in DKA. All new T1's are given only out patient appts.

I think that this is diabolical and also the lack of strips for T2's etc but DSN's at Practices for T2's has become the norm for our NHS.
