Diabetic food delivery service

Hi everyone,

I'm a newly diagnosed diabetic and wondered if there were any diabetic ready meal delivery services I could use. Ones that are similar to diet food websites but for diabetics. If there aren't, do you all think it would be useful to have such a company advising and delivering exclusively diabetic friendly food?

Thanks in advance for the responses.

As Andy has correctly said, we can order suitable food on-line now. We don't really need "special" food.

The likes of Wiltshire Farm Foods advertise that sell diabetic ready meals but personally I wouldn't touch them unless i was on my own and unable to cook. Far better to make your own meals as you can decide what you want to eat and adjust the portion size, 'diabetic food' can mean a number of things to a number of people so as a business adventure I couldn't see it working.

I am surprised by the number of times this subject has come up on this forum. The actual bit that surprises me is that there is a belief that you can buy diabetic foods prepared by someone out there in commerce land. Even the NHS doesn't seem to offer consistent advice on what diabetic food is, ask any dietitian.

Added to the above some foods affect some individuals differently to others and that is leaving aside the question of what is fine for a type 2 on diet only compared to what is fine for a type 1 not on diet only.

I am sure that if someone tried to sell me diabetic food the first question I would ask is "What's in it" and the chances are it would be healthy/balanced/fat/salt free plate that someone invented and it would probably have a lot of flour and sugar in it.

oakhousefoods.co.uk I used these guys. No sugar, no salt, low fat and balance. It is really yummy and the portion size is ideal.
I found it makes life easy when standing a fridge and wonder what to eat

Exactly as mentioned previously, all supermarkets cater for diabetics within their normal food ranges, it's just knowing what the food contains and making sensible choices. Unfortunately, "diabetic food" is OK regarding having lower carbs, but can be quite bad in other ways, for example may contain higher fats, sodium etc. Always best to know what you're eating and make meals from scratch. It's not that hard once you get your head around it.
