Diabetic remission

Have to be honest I sometimes go higher but tend to compensate over the next day or so! FBS hovers between 4.6 to 5.9
I am usually 5.1 to 5.9, but I had lots of 4s during two months when I was on about 60g daily carbs. The price of four pieces of toast a week! And porridge three times a week. The Wages of Sin.

That Scottish study is just a snapshot in time, 2019 being the year in question.
It doesn't go into the decay rates of remission, I'm unaware of any T2 study that tracks long term outside of bariatric surgery follow ups like the Swedish Obese Subjects Study.
It noted about a 50% relapse rate between years 2 & 10.

Note many of these patients underwent various bariatric surgeries as far back as the 80's.
None would have been aware of low carb eating as a form of maintenance.
The weight loss varied across the group but the most successful lost 20-30% of their starting weight & kept it off in the following 20 years.

If you ever need to be convinced in the power of weight loss & weight loss maintenance this is compelling.

Thanks so much. I was diagnosed with T2 in October 2018 with a Hba1c of 50 and my cholesterol levels was 5.8.I wasn't over weight, but around 64 kgs and my height is 162 .
I started on a low carb diet and lost weight, after 5 months in March 2019, I went down to 56 kgs. I had another blood test and my Hba1c went down to 43.2 and cholesterol was 3.6.
I was really surprised but since then my Hba1c is around 43 an 44 and my last results two weeks ago was 43 and cholesterol is 4.7
But I do need to keep an eye on my diet and try the low carb and leafy green veg

I am in control, but not remission. i choose to take a modicum of medication since it provides me the ability to handle 130 to 200g carbs a day and for 8 years now I have returned non diabetes HbA1c. so tonight I had beef steak with potatoes and greens and my bg only rose by 0.7 mmol/l I eat toast or fried bread with my bacon and eggs every day. But I recently suffered carb creep and my numbers rose accordingly, so I know that I must maintain a reasonably low carb diet to stay in control.

8 years ago my HbA1c was 106 and I was maxe'd out on 3 diabetes meds and facing insulin therapy. went low carb and not wanted to go back to "normal eating aka Eatwell" ever since. Its not a bother. I can still eat the occasional Pecan slice without flinching.

Can I ask of those of you that have achieved remission, how easy is it to stay there and do you have to control your carbs as strictly as when bringing your numbers down?

Depends how you define remission and how much you enjoy the keto style of eating

For me, around 6 years since diagnosed my hba1c is creeping up slowly. My morning fasting numbers too. While sleeping I have lower numbers than ever

My diet has become ketovore in a slow cut out the carbs slowly progression. An almost natural transition.
